Elon Musk calls The Boys finale “pathetic” – and showrunner delivers pithy response

**Warning: Contains spoilers from The Boys series finale**

The latest episode of ‘The Boys’, titled ‘Blood and Bone’, wrapped up the season this week, but the ending didn’t sit well with all viewers.

One of them was the world’s richest man, SpaceX entrepreneur and X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk – who didn’t seem too happy with supervillain Homelander being stripped of his powers.

In the finale of the satirical series, which has been seen as drawing parallels to the current political power players in the United States, Homelander – who became president during the show’s latest season – can be seen begging on his knees in the Oval Office, willing to do anything for mercy.

After one conservative commentator criticised the scene, writing: “The show writers turned Homelander into a [Donald] Trump analogue, and this is how they choose to end The Boys,” Musk then stepped in, replying to the post and branding the decision “pathetic”.

The comment was noticed by The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke – who couldn’t resist responding.

Kripke took the criticism in good humor, reposting it on X and joking, “Wow, this is a review of how @TheBoysTV handled Homelander – I’ll never get a better one!”

Musk later responded, saying he hadn’t seen the show, and shared a link to an older post. In that post, he suggested the showrunner, Kripke, changed the ending due to criticism about the character Homelander being featured in online memes he disagreed with.

Musk hasn’t publicly responded to a new character introduced in the finale of The Boys. This character is a wealthy, space-focused tech entrepreneur worried about declining birth rates, who wears a black cap and goes by the name “The Disruptor.”

Elon Musk, who once briefly worked in a government efficiency role under the Trump administration, is frequently seen wearing a similar baseball cap.

In the finale, The Disruptor is immediately killed after his introduction. Homelander shoots him into space while he still has his powers, leaving him to die there.

While Kripke and the team have never technically confirmed the role to be a parody of Musk, he did comment to Deadline about his choice to have the character make an appearance.

“What made you think it was Elon Musk?” he told the outlet, before noting “the idea of the Disruptor had been pitched throughout the season”.

“[It was] just something that is really existing in the world that was just such a perfect target, and it never really fit before,” he explained. “But then we needed this one scene to prove where Homelander’s head was at for this final episode, and so David Reed, who co-wrote the episode with Judalina Neira, said, ‘Well, let’s bring in the Disruptor.’

“It was just a short little bit, but just one last little satirical target before ending the show.”
