Emmerdale airs upsetting health news for Cain Dingle as huge Charity secret uncovered in early ITVX release

Following difficult news regarding Cain Dingle, Charity Dingle has shared a significant secret. (Emma Atkins plays Charity, and Jeff Hordley plays Cain in the ITV drama Emmerdale.)

2026 proved to be a very difficult year for the head of the Dingle family. After being diagnosed with cancer, he had major surgery to remove his prostate, all while his family was already facing challenges.

Moira Barton was wrongly sent to prison for manslaughter and human trafficking when two bodies were discovered on her farm, Butler’s Farm. Robert Sugden framed her because Joe Tate was blackmailing him.

They secretly wanted to take over Butler’s farm, putting Moira in a difficult position where she’d have to sell it. Worried about the financial consequences for his family, Cain started a new farming business at Wishing Well Cottage.

Right before his surgery, Charity walked him home and gently asked about what he was going through. She grew worried about how much whisky he was drinking and encouraged him to look after his health.

Cain angrily threw a bottle, unintentionally breaking his late father Zak’s favorite mug. When Charity didn’t give in, he finally confessed he was struggling to cope with Moira being in prison and felt like he was failing to manage everything.

Feeling overwhelmed and wanting to escape his problems, Cain unexpectedly tried to reconnect with his former partner while they were talking about old times. Luckily, she understood he was hurting and gently refused his advances.

Today, his doctor shared that while the surgery went well, recent tests suggest the cancer has likely spread outside the prostate.

Cain and Moira were heartbroken to learn that his treatment wasn’t finished and he’d need more in the coming months. They were also worried that radiation therapy might cause long-term incontinence.

I was completely gripped watching Moira rush to Charity’s side. Poor thing was absolutely devastated and self-medicating with alcohol and sleeping pills after what that awful Dr. Caitlin Todd – Caroline Harker, what a brilliantly chilling performance – did to her. It was heartbreaking to see her so broken.

The women were concerned Cain might relapse into his old patterns, and Charity unintentionally revealed that Cain had once tried to manipulate her into a compromising situation.

When Cain got back to Wishing Well, Moira was absolutely furious with him. She angrily told him that maybe he was right to doubt himself, because his behavior towards their marriage had been terrible.

Will Cain and Moira be able to recover from this?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
