Emmerdale’s Dr Todd tightens her grip on Charity Dingle amid blackmail ordeal in early ITVX release

Dr. Caitlin Todd, played by Caroline Harker, has once again created trouble for Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in Emmerdale, putting her in a very difficult spot.

Last month, Charity experienced a very difficult childbirth, delivering her baby in an elevator with both her husband, Mackenzie Boyd, and the baby’s other father, Ross Barton, present. She managed to keep a major secret throughout the ordeal: she wasn’t actually a surrogate for her granddaughter, Sarah Sugden.

Following the bleeding, Todd stepped up to handle the situation, leaving Ross to care for baby Leyla. He immediately realized he wasn’t ready to be a parent and passed Leyla to Sarah and her husband, Jacob Sugden (played by Joe-Warren Plant).

That night, Charity asked Chas Dingle, who was one of the few people who knew the secret, to talk to Ross and make sure he didn’t come near the hospital.

Unbeknownst to them, Todd had listened in and decided to use this information to continue bullying Jacob. She then pressured Charity to convince Jacob to withdraw his complaint against her, threatening to reveal the secret if he didn’t.

Even though Charity managed to convince him to reconsider, the harassment didn’t stop, and he went back to Human Resources. Realizing the evidence strongly suggested wrongdoing on her part, Todd chose to retire early rather than wait to be fired.

This whole situation has really opened up a can of worms. My aunt is convinced Jacob is responsible for her losing a significant part of her pension, and now she’s determined to get that money back. She wants to be able to afford to keep up the big house in Sheffield that her dad left her, and that’s driving a lot of this, honestly.

Honestly, when Vanessa told me she was planning on leaving, I knew things were over for them. It really broke her heart, and she actually listened to Charity for once, deciding she needed to be more careful about rushing into things with anyone again.

Today on the show, Todd intentionally tried to upset Charity, making things very uncomfortable. While playing darts at The Woolpack, Vanessa kissed her and then pointedly looked at Charity, sending a clear message that she wasn’t leaving.

She casually mentioned that her son, Moses, must be thrilled about his “new sister,” Leyla. Ross immediately clarified, explaining that he was actually Leyla’s great-uncle.

Desperate to resolve the situation, Charity hurried to find Todd at Tug Ghyll and asked what she intended to do. Todd explained she wanted to live comfortably in the Sheffield house, but Charity pointed out she likely only had around £1,000 available.

Todd dismissed her concerns, claiming The Woolpack pub was much more valuable and suggesting she sell her ownership stake. She was desperate for £10,000 by the next day, or it would ruin Jacob and Sarah’s lives.

Will Todd go through with her cruel plot?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
