FX Networks is launching a new series next week called The Beauty, based on the comic book by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley. The show follows FBI agents Cooper Madsen (Evan Peters) and Jordan Bennett (Rebecca Hall) as they investigate the disturbing deaths of several top supermodels. The core of the mystery is a new sexually transmitted virus, known as “The Beauty,” which turns people into seemingly perfect versions of themselves – but with horrifying results.
The show quickly becomes unpredictable and strange, featuring a mysterious company led by Ashton Kutcher’s character and a dangerous assassin played by Anthony Ramos. As the plot develops, Peters’ character gets pulled into a global conspiracy that puts all of humanity at risk. While it appears to be a scary thriller, there’s a lot of action, including a particularly unforgettable scene where Peters has a bizarre and physically demanding fight with a completely naked, and very slippery, opponent. In an interview with ComicBook, we asked him about the preparation for that scene, and his answer was exactly what you’d expect.
“It took a ton of practice,” Peters said, laughing. “We trained extensively in MMA and then collaborated with our stunt team, Mark Fichera and Jason Mello. They created these incredibly detailed and complex fight scenes. When we got to rehearsals, that particular moment proved challenging – we didn’t have much time to work on it, and my opponent was very agile. But honestly, it was just working with those talented professionals who really know their craft, and I just kept practicing and practicing… even when I was the slippery one.”
During a discussion about intimacy coordinators on set, Chris Evans admitted he wasn’t sure if one was present. His co-star, Rebecca Hall, quickly pointed out that one had to have been, given that Evans was nude. Evans then sheepishly revealed a mishap occurred: a crew member’s hand accidentally brushed against his private area, which was awkward for everyone involved, but they managed to continue filming.
The new series The Beauty, created by Ryan Murphy, will debut on FX and Hulu with its first three episodes on January 21st.
