As a sci-fi fan, I’ve always appreciated Netflix’s selection, but they’re making some changes that have me a little worried. Later this month, a really well-regarded sci-fi series is leaving the platform entirely – every single episode! January brought us some good stuff, like District 9 and all five seasons of Falling Skies, but Netflix has also been removing a lot of titles. Unfortunately, another series is about to join that list, and it’s a bummer for those of us who enjoy a good space adventure.
If you haven’t watched The Lazarus Project yet, now’s the time! This sci-fi series, which premiered on Netflix in June, is leaving the platform soon. All 16 episodes, spanning both seasons of the Paapa Essiedu-led show, will no longer be available after January 28th. Created by Joe Barton, The Lazarus Project centers around George, an average man who gets caught in a time loop and joins a secret group that can reset time to avoid disasters.
The Lazarus Project Is an Underrated Sci-Fi Masterpiece That Was Cancelled Too Soon
The sci-fi series The Lazarus Project aired on Sky Max for two seasons, from 2022 to 2023, before being cancelled in 2024. While the cancellation was likely due to budget concerns, it was still disappointing. The show was truly excellent, and the cancellation leaves the cliffhanger ending of season two permanently unanswered.
Earning the label of ‘masterpiece’ is rare, but The Lazarus Project truly deserves it, despite not getting enough recognition. This show is a thrilling and complex time-loop story that skillfully combines big ideas with genuine emotion and realistic consequences. It explores how constantly resetting time impacts the characters and their relationships, all while delivering plenty of action and surprises. Fans of intricate plots and thought-provoking themes will love this series, which features smart writing and excellent performances.
Critics and audiences both loved The Lazarus Project during its two seasons. Its first season earned a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it Sky’s most popular show. Viewers gave it an average rating of 75% and praised it as one of the best shows in recent memory, even comparing it to the work of Christopher Nolan.
Where to Stream The Lazarus Project After It Leaves Netflix?
The sci-fi thriller The Lazarus Project is leaving Netflix and isn’t currently available on any other U.S. streaming services. Starting January 28th, it will be harder to watch. While it might show up on a different streaming platform eventually, the only way to be sure you can watch both seasons is to rent or buy it online.
