Every LEGO Lightsaber You Can Build (Including Retired Sets)

For over six years, LEGO has been steadily creating a popular collection of Star Wars items, though it’s not officially labeled as a series. Starting in 2020, LEGO offered four detailed, life-size lightsaber hilts as free gifts with purchase. Each one includes a printed nameplate and a stand for display. The newest one, LEGO Star Wars The Darksaber (40917), became available on May 1, 2026, as their annual May the 4th promotion, and it’s currently the only one you can get directly from LEGO.com.

The other three lightsaber hilts are no longer available through LEGO directly, but collectors still seek them out and their prices have increased dramatically – some now sell for ten times what they originally cost. With Star Wars Day just around the corner, here’s a complete guide to every LEGO lightsaber hilt, where to find them, and how much you can expect to pay.

LEGO 40917 The Darksaber (2026)

Currently available as a May the 4th GWP through May 6, 2026, while supplies last.

This year’s LEGO Darksaber is the largest and most detailed lightsaber model created so far. It’s made of 278 pieces and measures over 10.5 inches long, faithfully recreating the famous weapon from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, used by characters like Pre Vizsla, Sabine Wren, Bo-Katan Kryze, Moff Gideon, and Din Djarin.

This is the first LEGO Star Wars lightsaber given away as a free gift with purchase that doesn’t require buying a particular large LEGO set. You can get one by spending $160 on any LEGO Star Wars items at LEGO.com or a LEGO Store between May 1st and 6th, 2026, as long as supplies last.

  • Set number: 40917
  • Pieces: 278
  • Age: 18+
  • Original release: May 1, 2026
  • How to get it: Free with $160+ LEGO Star Wars purchase at LEGO.com (May 1–6, 2026)
  • Aftermarket value: TBD… but if previous lightsaber GWPs are any guide, expect $100+ resale prices the moment the promo window closes

Retired. Aftermarket only.

This is the third model in the series, and it’s the most vibrant! This build, made of 145 pieces, lets you create Luke Skywalker’s green lightsaber – the one he builds between the second and third movies, and first uses to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. It was released in October 2024 as a free gift with the purchase of the larger Jabba’s Sail Barge set, which costs $499.99.

  • Set number: 40730

LEGO 40483 Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber – A New Hope (2021)

Retired. Aftermarket only.

This LEGO set, consisting of 173 pieces, is a replica of Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber – the same one Obi-Wan gives to Luke in A New Hope and that Luke loses on Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back. However, LEGO marketed it as “Luke Skywalker’s Lightsaber” because it’s the lightsaber Luke uses when battling the AT-AT on Hoth. It was first released on November 26, 2021, as a free gift with purchase (GWP) exclusively with the 75313 Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) AT-AT on Black Friday.

LEGO 5006290 Yoda’s Lightsaber (2020)

This LEGO set began a popular series of builds. Released on September 16, 2020, the 140-piece Yoda’s lightsaber was a free gift with the purchase of the 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina set and was available to VIP members. Over five years later, it’s now the most expensive of these sets to buy on the resale market.

  • Set number: 5006290 (also cataloged as 6346097 and 6346098)
  • Pieces: 140
  • Age: 5+

What ties them together

LEGO doesn’t officially categorize these as a specific series, unlike their Helmet Collection. However, the designs clearly connect them. Each lightsaber hilt comes with a black display stand you build yourself and a printed label. Importantly, they don’t include the lightsaber blade itself, nor do they come with any minifigures. These sets have always been available only as free gifts with a LEGO purchase, which is why they’re so popular and expensive on the resale market.

Previously, most of these collectible items came with very expensive LEGO sets. This made them costly to acquire, even when they were first released. The Darksaber is different – it was available with any LEGO Star Wars purchase over $160, making it much easier and more affordable for fans to get their hands on one, and likely the best opportunity most have had to begin collecting a current release.

Notably missing from the collection are popular characters like Darth Vader, Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Ahsoka, Rey, and Kylo Ren. Since LEGO releases figures of these characters about every one to two years, there’s still plenty of opportunity to expand the line if they continue at that pace.

Right now, there’s only one chance to get the complete set directly from the store, and after that, you’ll have three opportunities to find it on eBay.
