Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks a fresh start for the cinematic Spider-Man, introducing a significant shift in his storyline. The new story jumps ahead four years after the events of No Way Home, completely bypassing Peter Parker’s college years and focusing instead on his life as an adult.
A key part of the movie No Way Home involved Peter Parker, MJ, and Ned applying to college. But when Spider-Man’s secret identity was revealed, and Doctor Strange tried to fix it with a spell, everyone – including MJ and Ned – forgot who Peter was. Because the next four years won’t be shown in future movies, Marvel will likely have to skip over many of the storylines from the comics that take place while Peter is in college.
5) Peter Parker And Gwen Stacy’s Relationship

A key element of the Spider-Man stories is Peter Parker’s romantic life, and Gwen Stacy is one of his most important love interests. Because there are many different versions of Spider-Man’s history across movies, TV shows, and comics, the details of these events, including his relationship with Gwen, can change. However, most versions of the story take place while Peter is a student at Empire State University.
In the comic books, Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy first meet as students at Empire State University. Though Gwen is initially dating Harry Osborn, she and Peter eventually fall in love. After Peter breaks up with Mary Jane Watson, he and Gwen start dating. Because the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) already established that Peter and MJ are no longer together due to Doctor Strange’s spell, it’s possible Peter could have explored a relationship with Gwen during the four-year time jump.
4) The Death Of Captain George Stacy

The death of George Stacy is a defining moment in Spider-Man stories, even highlighted as a key event in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Because it typically occurs while Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy are dating, it usually happens during their college years. While Captain Stacy has died in various versions of the story, his original death involved him sacrificing himself to save a child from falling debris during a fight between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus on a rooftop.
Captain Stacy’s death is a hugely important event for Spider-Man, so it would be strange if the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t address it at all. However, the previous Amazing Spider-Man films already showed this event in great detail, so the MCU might not feel the need to revisit it.
3) Peter’s Friendship With Harry Osborne

Peter Parker and Harry Osborn are famously close friends in the Marvel comics, but that part of their story hasn’t been fully explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet. They first meet as students at Empire State University, and although they start as competitors, they quickly become best friends. They even live together for a while, but Peter’s double life as Spider-Man and his awareness of Harry’s father’s dangerous activities create tension between them.
With Ned seemingly out of the picture, I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz that the ‘Brand New Day’ storyline might be how they bring in Peter’s next best buddy. And honestly, the idea of Peter knowing Norman Osborn is the Green Goblin – but from another universe – is a really compelling twist. It could add a fascinating new layer to the Spider-Man mythos we haven’t seen before.
2) The Green Goblin’s Identity Reveal

As a lifelong Spider-Man fan, I still remember being completely shocked to find out the Green Goblin was Norman Osborn! It took a while – he first showed up way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #14, but his identity stayed a secret until issue #39. What made it really impactful was that Peter had already become close friends with Harry, making the reveal a total gut punch. It’s one of those defining moments for Spider-Man, and honestly, with everything happening in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve already seen this play out in some way.
Even though this was a major storyline for Peter in college, it likely wouldn’t have worked as a plot twist in a movie. Since Peter already encountered Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and those characters are so well-known, it would have ruined the surprise.
1) Spider-Man Meets Black Cat

As a longtime Spider-Man fan, I’ve always loved the dynamic between Peter Parker and Black Cat. In the comics, their romance really kicks off right after college, and for a while, there was buzz that we might finally see that story on the big screen with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The first trailer dropped, and it looks like Black Cat won’t be appearing this time around, which is a bit of a disappointment. Still, I’m holding out hope that we’ll eventually get a movie adaptation of this classic Spider-Man storyline – it’s definitely overdue!
