Every Masters of the Universe Hero & Villain in the New Movie & How They Compare To the Originals

As a lifelong fan, I can hardly believe it – after four decades, a Masters of the Universe movie is actually happening! It’s so exciting to finally see these characters coming to life on the big screen. The filmmakers clearly love the original cartoon, which is fantastic, but of course, things are going to be updated for a modern audience. That’s why we’re taking a close look at all the heroes and villains, comparing how they look in the new movie to their classic designs from the original series. And we’re starting with one of the most dramatic changes!

11. Roboto

Roboto is a hero from Eternia with a truly unique look. He was designed with a clear body, letting you see the gears and mechanics inside. He also had a claw for a hand and a helmet with a small visor and an extra piece around the base.

The latest image shows Roboto with a significant power boost, making him a formidable warrior even without moving. While his design has been updated, he still retains familiar features like his claw hand, visor, and blue color scheme. The new chest plate might be hiding his transparent body, potentially for a dramatic reveal later in the film – hopefully that’s true! But even if it isn’t, Roboto looks amazing.

10. Spikor

First up on our villain list is Spikor, who has been completely redesigned. The original Spikor stood out with his bright purple and pink color scheme and prominent spikes, but was usually depicted as a clumsy sidekick. The updated version, however, appears to be a much different character, abandoning many of those earlier traits.

The updated design gives the character’s signature spikes a prominent place all over his body and head, and his skin is now a softer shade of purple. Based on what we see, this version of Spikor looks prepared to fight, and he’s much more fearsome and threatening than the animated character.

9. Fisto

Let’s talk about Fisto, a character who translated remarkably well from the cartoon to the movie. He’s known for being a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, and his strength comes from a powerful metal gauntlet. The original series gave him a simple but memorable look – a giant metal fist – and the filmmakers clearly got what made the character special.

The trailer only shows Fisto for a moment, but it’s clear his armor has a streamlined, yet clean look. More importantly, he wields a massive metal fist that’s sure to be devastating in battle. He looks fantastic – no improvements needed!

8. Trap Jaw

Although Trap Jaw appeared briefly in the trailer, his design seems very faithful to the original cartoon. We see his blue body, pink helmet, and weapon-filled arm. However, the toy version appears even more accurate, especially with the addition of his green face.

The colors on his shorts, belt, and legs seem to have been slightly changed, although his legs still have some green mixed in with the metal. However, this cyborg is more dangerous than ever, with a very sharp weapon, and we can expect to see him with even more weapons added during the film.

7. Cringer

Similar to how Prince Adam becomes He-Man, his cowardly pet Cringer transforms into the brave and powerful Battle Cat. Just like Trap Jaw, Battle Cat’s design is very faithful to the original cartoon, featuring a green body with orange stripes.

One major difference is how Cringer looks before he becomes Battle Cat. In the trailer, he appears strong and confident even in his regular form, standing comfortably with the other heroes. The original series showed a bigger contrast – Cringer used to be much more timid and playful before transforming. While we’ll see how it works in the movie, the character’s design is remarkably faithful to the source material.

6. Beast Man

Beast Man, one of Skeletor’s most powerful allies, appears to be a major threat in the upcoming movie, based on the trailer. While the lighting and his pose make it slightly hard to see all the details, the trailer offers a good look at his design, and it seems true to the original character.

Beast Man’s armor used to be defined by its spikes, and this version still features them. However, new additions like shoulder and wrist coverings are complemented by spikes protruding from his shoulders and back. His fur is orange, but his armor has shifted from red to a more subdued grey or black. Overall, he looks fantastic, though his design is a bit further from the original compared to some of the other characters.

5. Teela

Now, let’s look at Teela. Her design is the most updated of the group, but it still clearly feels like Teela. We kept key elements like the gold detailing on her white suit, the bright colors, and the longer arm guards. However, this version has more intricate details than the original.

The arm bracers feature detailed textures, and the pants match the gold and white color scheme, with angled designs on the belt and leg strap. While we haven’t seen the sword and shield yet, promotional toy images show a more detailed look at her other weapons, including a rifle and a smaller pistol. The toys also suggest she’ll be wearing a tiara, even though it isn’t visible in the released footage. This is a fantastic modern reimagining of the character’s outfit, but it’s a significant change from the original design.

4. Evil-Lyn

Evil-Lyn is incredibly powerful, second only to Skeletor, and the trailer shows she still has the classic look fans remember. Even with limited screen time, you can clearly see her signature helmet, intricate armor, and magical staff.

This action figure offers a clearer view of Evil-Lyn’s armor. While the design has been updated, it still clearly looks like her. The biggest difference is the color – it’s more of a bluish-purple than the brighter purple seen in the animated series. There’s also a shiny blue detail on her pants, and it will be interesting to see how that looks when the show airs.

3. Man-At-Arms

Next up is Man-At-Arms, a consistently popular hero. The film’s version feels like a fresh, modern take on the classic character. While the armor design has been updated slightly, it’s still largely recognizable, with the most noticeable difference being its new color.

The cartoon version features bright orange armor that complements the darker green suit worn underneath. The film’s suit is very similar, with added texture for detail. While the movie armor also has an orange hue, it appears worn and weathered. The toy version, however, has a much bolder orange color, and even includes some green to create a more fantastical look. Just like with Evil-Lyn’s outfit, it will be interesting to see how this appears under brighter lights when the film is released.

2. Skeletor

Skeletor, the main villain from Masters of the Universe, is incredibly powerful, and the movie version stays true to his cartoon appearance. While his skull is now white instead of yellow, and his chest armor is more elaborate, he’s instantly recognizable as Skeletor.

The trailer also features Skeletor’s staff, and shows him battling He-Man with it at the end. The character design looks very true to the original, and we’re excited to see more of their fight!

1. He-Man

Let’s talk about He-Man. Like Skeletor, this version of the protector of Eternia is very faithful to the original cartoon. While his hair has been slightly styled and his wrist and arm guards have been improved, he now also wears full armor and a belt, a change from his original look. These are small details, though, and combined with a Sword of Power that looks just like the one from the cartoon, this is one of the most accurate He-Man figures ever created.
