As a die-hard movie buff, I can’t help but reminisce about the time when the enigmatic Nick Fury, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, assembled an extraordinary team in “The Avengers.” With Loki’s arrival on Earth, brandishing his mysterious scepter and manipulating minds like Clint Barton and Erik Selvig, there was little room for debate. The God of Mischief’s intentions were shrouded after the events of “Thor,” and Fury wasn’t willing to take chances with an Asgardian.
First in line for the team were Iron Man and Captain America, despite their contrasting personalities. They stood ready to defend their home, a testament to their resolve. Bruce Banner also joined the fray, though SHIELD insisted it wasn’t because of the colossal monster living within him. Instead, they wanted him to trail the Tesseract and stay aboard the helicarrier.
However, Loki had other plans, unleashing the Hulk and placing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a predicament – fighting against their new ally.
Initially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Hulk presents a significant challenge. Yet, over time, other Avengers discover they possess the capabilities needed to confront him effectively. Some of them even manage to subdue Banner’s alter-ego, showing that success in a fight isn’t solely about brute strength; it also requires strategy and teamwork.
5) Hawkeye
Barton rarely encounters the Hulk, which might be beneficial. His sharp shooting skills notwithstanding, it’s doubtful he possesses an arrow potent enough to halt the Hulk. During “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” he confides in Wanda Maximoff that he struggles against robots, and the Hulk is on a different level. When the Hulk causes chaos again, Hawkeye might be wise to stay out of the fray and support someone more suited for the battle instead.
4) Captain America
Just like his archer comrade, Steve Rogers generally keeps a distance from the Hulk. He occasionally issues commands to the beast, but he understands that he’s not the one to confront it head-on. If these old friends were ever to fight, it wouldn’t turn out well for Captain America. Although his battle tactics give him an advantage against a mindless creature, the strength he would need to withstand would be more than Captain America could manage.
3) Iron Man
In the given list, Iron Man is the one who squares off against Hulk first. Although Tony Stark holds Bruce Banner in high regard more than anyone else, he acknowledges the danger that Hulk’s alter ego represents and designs the Hulkbuster armor. During the movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, Tony dons this suit and manages to stand his ground against Hulk. In fact, Hulk takes a heavy blow to the head from Iron Man in their battle, causing him to collapse. Nevertheless, it’s hard to overlook the fact that Tony Stark has a fair share of luck, and should these two heroes engage in another fight, the outcome could easily change.
2) Black Widow
If only “The Avengers” movie existed within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Natasha Romanoff would rank at the bottom of the list. When Hulk begins wreaking havoc on the helicarrier, the spy is left powerless and can only flee. Once the commotion subsides, she’s visibly shaken. However, she doesn’t let Hulk overpower her again, instead devising a method to transform the beast back into Banner using only her hand and voice. Black Widow shares an unique bond with Banner that sets her apart in their battles against his darker self.
1) Thor
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but notice the intriguing dynamic between Thor and the Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though I never wished for such a confrontation, Thor seems to be the Avengers’ equivalent of the Hulk, given their epic clash in “The Avengers.” With a powerful swing of his hammer, Mjolnir, he delivers a telling blow to the Green Goliath. This initial skirmish sets the stage for a rivalry that intensifies in “Thor: Ragnarok,” where they engage in another fierce battle within the gladiatorial arena.
However, their contest is interrupted by the Grandmaster before a clear winner could be determined. Despite Hulk’s reluctance to acknowledge it, Thor was on the verge of victory. Interestingly, with each subsequent appearance, Thor seems to become even stronger, leaving me wondering just how long the Hulk could hold his own against the God of Thunder. At this point, the question isn’t so much about whether Thor can defeat Hulk, but rather, how long Hulk could last against Thor.
