Wow, handheld gaming is HUGE right now! I remember when the Nintendo Switch came out in 2017, and it was amazing, but nobody predicted how popular handhelds would become. Now, Xbox is finally joining the fun and really embracing the idea of a portable console. We’ve seen Sony and Steam try things out, but this ROG Xbox Ally is the first actual handheld device from Microsoft. What’s really cool is that things like cloud gaming, Game Pass, and even Windows are now totally portable – not just stuck to my TV or computer. Plus, a bunch of games are already being tweaked to play perfectly on the Ally, which is awesome!
It’s still early to say how the Xbox Ally stacks up against other portable gaming devices and how successful it will be. However, its initial sell-out suggests it has a lot of promise, and good reviews could make it the next popular way to play games while traveling. Similar to the Steam Deck, not all games are optimized for handheld play, so it’s important to find out which titles really shine on the device.
All Xbox Games Optimized for Handheld on Xbox Ally
Microsoft has confirmed that many games have been updated to work well on the Xbox Ally. They’ve also created a program to help players easily find games that are optimized for the handheld device, as well as those that are mostly compatible with some adjustable settings. Here’s a list of games confirmed to work with the ROG Ally.
- Balatro
- Doom: The Dark Ages
- Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
- Forza Horizon 5
- Gears of War: Reloaded
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Hollow Knight: Silksong
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
- Minecraft
- Monster Train 2
- Ori and the Will of the Wisps
- Persona 4 Golden
- Roblox
- The Rogue Prince of Persia
- South of Midnight
- Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4
- Vampire Survivors
This list of optimized games will likely expand as more developers add support for this feature. Like with the Steam Deck, we anticipate new game releases will increasingly focus on handheld compatibility. While most games will still work on the Xbox Ally, they might not run as smoothly without specific optimization. The best way to find out if a game is optimized for handheld play is to check directly on your Xbox Ally.
