The first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday was shown at CinemaCon, revealing Robert Downey Jr. as the film’s main villain, Doctor Doom. Unlike earlier teasers that focused on individual heroes, this trailer gives a wider view of the action. We see the X-Men joining the fight – including Gambit battling Shang-Chi and Yelena Belova facing off against a Mystique shapeshifter posing as herself – along with a worried Thor and Steve Rogers using the powerful hammer, Mjolnir. The trailer isn’t available online yet, but it’s already generating a lot of buzz.
Fans are excited about the possibility of a new Avengers vs. X-Men story and seeing Thor and Captain America reunite after so long since Avengers: Endgame. However, the biggest draw is undoubtedly Doctor Doom. Robert Downey Jr.’s return generates buzz, but Doom is poised to become the MCU’s next major villain – a character who will be central to both Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Though many details are still secret, the trailer offers a first look at how the MCU is interpreting Victor von Doom.
5) Doom Teases “Something Is Coming”

The video features a voiceover believed to be Doctor Doom, who warns that a major threat is on the horizon – one that might be unstoppable. Considering the story involves multiple universes, this warning suggests Doom could be the protagonist of this particular narrative. The “something” he’s referring to is likely an incursion, or possibly multiple incursions, where universes collide and are usually destroyed.
A popular idea about Doctor Doom is that he’s from a world that was ruined by an invasion, which drives his desire to ‘fix’ the multiverse – but reshape it in his own vision. This motivation is similar to Thanos’ reasons for trying to balance the universe, and it could make Doom a more nuanced villain instead of simply a bad one. Hopefully, it won’t lead to people mistakenly thinking he was actually justified in his actions.
4) RDJ’s Doom Has An Accent

It’s not unexpected, considering Doctor Doom’s origin in the fictional Eastern European country of Latveria, but Robert Downey Jr. is using an accent in the movie. Interestingly, reports differ on what the accent actually is – some describe it as a deep, rough British sound, while others say it’s the Eastern European accent you’d anticipate.
That option would be more logical, but Robert Downey Jr. is reliable, so we’d expect him to handle it well. While it doesn’t completely disprove the idea that Doctor Doom could be a variant of Tony Stark (or the other way around), it does make it seem less probable. It wouldn’t make much sense to establish such distinct origins and personalities if they were ultimately the same person.
3) What Doctor Doom’s Face & Mask Look Like
Robert Downey Jr. will be using a distinct accent while playing Doctor Doom in the upcoming movie, ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’. The design of his mask is also reminiscent of a particular style.

Some viewers have spotted a glimpse of Victor Von Doom in the trailer, and he appears to have scars. This has led to speculation about the extent of his injuries, as the comics portray Doom with varying levels of disfigurement. Sometimes he’s severely scarred, and other times the injuries are less severe, with his pride being the main reason he wears a mask. Current indications suggest the movie will go with the more heavily scarred version, which will help distinguish Doom from Iron Man’s Tony Stark.
The mask looks a lot like the artwork previously shown – it’s fairly square and blocky, with some detailed designs. It’s a bit more complex than what we briefly saw in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but generally it’s what fans would anticipate – an evolution of the existing design, not a complete overhaul.
2) Doctor Doom Fights Thor & Catches Stormbreaker

The trailer shows a quick clash between Doom and Thor, one of the MCU’s strongest heroes. It suggests Thor will lead the heroes in the upcoming fight. This aligns with a previous teaser where Thor asked for strength from the All-Father, likely preparing for a battle with Doom. Thor appears to need all the power he can muster, as he throws his axe, Stormbreaker, at Doom, who casually catches it with just two fingers.
1) Doom Is More Terrifying Than Thanos

Thor’s immense strength – being a god and all – combined with the power of Stormbreaker, could have potentially killed Thanos with a direct hit. The fact that Doctor Doom easily blocked Stormbreaker shows just how powerful he is. While Doom’s power level has varied in comics over time – he’s even been beaten by Thor before – his combination of incredible intelligence, high-tech equipment, and magical abilities make him a formidable opponent. This is especially true considering the potential for a supremely powerful “God Emperor Doom” as hinted at in future storylines like Secret Wars.
The trailer features a powerful speech from Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, revealing that Doctor Doom is the most frightening enemy he’s ever encountered – even more so than Thanos. He reflects on past battles and warns that their previous sacrifices will be meaningless if they don’t unite. Thor emphasizes the desperate need for a miracle if they hope to prevail, and calls for everyone to return as allies.
We know Doctor Doom can’t truly be defeated, much like Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, because the events of Secret Wars haven’t happened yet. Despite this, he’s shaping up to be one of the most formidable villains the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18th, 2026.
