Everyone’s been raving about Astro’s Playroom, the game that comes with the PS5, and honestly, I totally get why! It’s next up on my list of games to fully complete (getting that Platinum trophy!), so I wanted to share why I’m so excited about it. It’s just a fantastic game.
If you have a PS5, you’ve likely already tried this game. It’s hard to resist – it’s free and pre-loaded on the console, plus the main character is incredibly adorable!
Astro Bot first charmed players in the PSVR game, Astro Bot Rescue Mission, but really became popular with Playroom on the PS5. This game served as both a showcase for the console’s impressive features and a way to introduce Astro Bot to a much wider audience.
That was a really smart decision, and it would have been a good idea even if the game itself hadn’t turned out well. Luckily, Playroom is a delightful, cheerful, and enjoyable introduction to the console it showcases.
Getting the platinum trophy in Astro’s Playroom felt like the perfect way to begin my PS5 experience. The game wonderfully showcases everything the console – and especially the DualSense controller – can do, all while maintaining a consistently joyful and energetic tone throughout its short playtime.
What truly sets this game apart isn’t just its technology, but the careful design, clever ideas, and refined execution at every step. It could have easily been a simple showcase of the PS5’s capabilities, but instead, it’s a wonderfully compact 3D platformer that feels fantastic to play.
I’ll never forget setting up my new console and launching Astro’s Playroom. I was really impressed – not just by the DualSense controller’s cool features, but by how polished and well-made the game itself was.
Ever since I completed Astro Bot Rescue Mission, I’ve been hoping Team Asobi would create a dedicated platformer game. They finally did, and it’s easily become my favorite game on the PlayStation 5.
The trophies in Astro’s Playroom are simple to earn, but really enjoyable to unlock. You’ll mostly get them by completing levels, tackling fun challenges, and finding collectibles. These collectibles are especially rewarding, as they beautifully showcase the history of PlayStation with a lot of attention to detail.
I really can’t find anything negative to say about Astro or his games. Playroom was a fantastic launch title for the PS5 and was a simple, satisfying game to earn a platinum trophy with.
Cheers, Astro’s Playroom.
