Anybody paying attention may have noticed there’s been a gap in the Going Platinum schedule.

I’ve been dealing with a bad cold and a very busy week covering video game news. Unfortunately, that means I’m behind – and Geoff Keighley isn’t waiting for me to catch up!

Things have calmed down for me recently, getting back to normal, so I’m happy to start up our popular Push Square feature again.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a fantastic game! I really loved playing it all the way through.

I don’t really have much new to add about this game – most of what needs to be said has already been covered. My opinions are pretty middle-of-the-road.

When I think about Returnal, what really stands out is how visually stunning it is.

Many people naturally associate great graphics with how realistic they look, and that can be truly stunning. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, despite its fantastical setting, features some of the most impressively realistic characters and environments I’ve ever encountered.

While not perfect, Rift Apart is still one of the most beautiful games on the PS5. It stands out thanks to incredibly detailed textures and materials – like Ratchet’s fur and Clank’s shiny metal – and a consistently strong and unified art style throughout the entire game.

It’s hard not to compare the visuals to a Pixar film, and honestly, that’s a fair assessment. The animation is outstanding, with incredibly detailed environments and charmingly colorful characters. I haven’t seen this level of visual style in any other game.

I suppose Kena: Scars of Kosmora will hover in a similar space when that comes around.

I’m really impressed with how good Rift Apart looks. I think it will probably age better than many other visually demanding PS5 games.

Beyond all of that, the game still has impressive technical features, like how quickly it loads and changes environments using the SSD.

The in-game achievements were surprisingly simple to unlock. Considering the game is designed for players of all ages, a simple collection of items is fitting, but it’s still enjoyable to find them all.

It’s rewarding to earn difficult Trophies that truly challenge your gaming abilities and push you to explore different strategies. However, there’s also value in having a full Trophy list when you finish a game – a sense of completion alongside the gameplay itself.

Everything feels complete. You’ve gotten all the items, finished all the side quests, and experienced everything the game has to offer—you really went above and beyond! It’s just a satisfying feeling when you achieve that.

Cheers, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
