Naoki Yoshida, the director of Final Fantasy XIV, has stated that the game might not run perfectly on the Nintendo Switch 2 in some situations.
At the Anaheim Fan Festival this weekend, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XIV will be released on the new Switch 2 console, marking the first time the popular game will be playable on a Nintendo platform.
After the announcement, Yoshi-P explained at the Anaheim Fan Festival that the development team was striving for optimal performance, but acknowledged that some problems were still expected.
He explained they’re working hard to improve the console’s performance, saying, “We’re really focused on making it the best it can be.”
He mentioned that players might experience some slowdown in framerate in busier areas, specifically towns. This is because the game has to display a large number of players on screen at the same time.

Look, I’ve been testing this a lot, and I can tell you the performance is solid. We’re consistently hitting 30 frames per second, and honestly, even when things get really intense in Duty content, it runs smoothly. So, you really don’t need to worry about it.
Although some players might not accept any performance problems, Yoshi-P also shared his enthusiasm for the game’s upcoming release on consoles later this year.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is a great system, and it offers a lot of flexibility in how you play. You can connect it to a TV for playing on a big screen, or use it as a handheld, and it even supports mouse controls, giving you different options to suit your preferences.

Friday’s presentation included several big reveals, but the announcement of the Switch 2 version of the game was just one of them. The biggest news was the upcoming Evercold expansion, followed by a collaboration with Evangelion.
