Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Dev Regrets Brutal PS5 Platinum Trophy

Hey, as a big Final Fantasy VII Rebirth fan, I’m really glad to hear that the director, Naoki Hamaguchi, understands our frustration with how difficult the Platinum Trophy was to get! It was seriously way too demanding, and it’s awesome that they’re listening to us players.

During an interview with Restart.Run, director Hamaguchi revealed a surprising answer when asked about regrets during the game’s development: the Trophy list. He explained that Square Enix intended players to have a wide variety of options and freely choose the activities they enjoyed.

The difficulty was that earning the Platinum Trophy required completing and fully mastering almost every aspect of the game.

Hamaguchi pointed out that the requirements for earning all the trophies in the game were extremely strict – players had to complete absolutely everything perfectly. He admitted this might have been too demanding, and while they aimed to give players more freedom, they unintentionally created a different type of challenge and pressure instead.

With the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy nearing its conclusion, director Hamaguchi has assured players that earning the Platinum Trophy in the final game will be much easier than in previous installments. He also shared that the last entry will feature a bigger, more varied world and offer a wide range of gameplay content.

According to Hamaguchi, the team focused on making trophies fun to earn, rather than creating challenges that limit how players experience the game. He chuckled as he explained this approach.

If you’re curious about the trophies in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you can check them out on Exophase. The hardest one to earn is the 7-Star Hotel Trophy, which essentially means completing everything in the game. Powerpyx estimates this takes between 150 and 200 hours of gameplay.

Don’t worry, Balaam – getting the Platinum Trophy for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 should be doable!
