Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, has shared an update for players eager to experience the game on the upcoming Switch 2 this June, or the third installment in the series when it eventually releases. Whether it’s ‘good’ news is subjective, but we’ll leave that for you to decide.
Following his recent comments about Game Key-Cards, he told Automaton that the Switch 2 versions of the game are expected to run at 30 frames per second, even with the larger and more detailed game environments. He explained that the team is prioritizing smooth, consistent performance over higher graphical settings, especially considering the Switch 2’s focus on portability and its two different graphics modes. Hamaguchi stressed that maintaining consistent performance is key to keeping players engaged.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will have a handheld mode, which presents some technical challenges. Our goal is to run games at a smooth 30 frames per second whenever we can. For Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the next game in the series, our team is diligently working to make sure it runs reliably at that speed.
The Switch 2 handled Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade really well, and we’re optimistic that the next two games in the series will also perform smoothly on the console. Everything looks promising, and we’re excited to revisit this fun game on the go.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available on June 3rd for the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing well, and we might see an official reveal sometime this year.
