James Gunn just unveiled a major detail about the upcoming Superman sequel: Lex Luthor’s powerful Warsuit. We’ve gotten our first look at the armor Nicholas Hoult will wear in Man of Tomorrow, likely to battle the villain Brainiac. The suit appears to be very faithful to its comic book origins, and interestingly, it seems like the filmmakers are aiming for a practical design – meaning it won’t rely only on computer-generated effects.
In the comics, Lex Luthor used powerful Warsuits to give him a fighting chance against Superman, and these suits were created by his company, LexCorp. But the initial images of the armor in the new movie hint at a different backstory. The logo on Luthor’s chestplate isn’t the same one seen in the first film. James Gunn recently shared a great first look at actor David Coster in the costume on Instagram – he really embodies the character’s presence!
Lex Luthor is Getting a Major Power Upgrade in Man of Tomorrow
Regardless of its origins, the Warsuit, based on the comic book stories, will give Lex Luthor incredible powers – superhuman strength, resilience, the ability to fly, and energy blasts. This makes sense, as it’s the only way Luthor could realistically confront Brainiac without being immediately defeated. It also fits with Luthor’s ongoing goal to prove he’s better than Superman. The comics always emphasized Luthor’s pride, and this suit essentially gives him the power to rival Superman’s abilities. It’s a very interesting development.
This is a developing story…
