Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 Director Addresses $221M Box Office Success Despite 16% Rotten Tomatoes Score

Similar to the first movie, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 proved to be a box office success despite mixed reviews, and director Emma Tammi is pleased with how it turned out. Tammi initially brought the popular horror video game series to the big screen in 2023, and the sequel continues the story two years later. In this installment, Josh Hutcherson’s character, Mike, and Elizabeth Lail’s Vanessa discover that Abby’s desire to reunite with her animatronic friends has accidentally awakened a dangerous new spirit with sinister plans for the town.

To celebrate the digital release of the movie, Ash Crossan from ScreenRant spoke with director Emma Tammi about a potential Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. When asked about how well the first film did in theaters, Tammi said the box office numbers were “really exciting,” noting it had already earned over $200 million at the time of their conversation, and has since reached $221 million.

It’s fantastic to see the fans enjoyed it so much! I think the whole team – the cast and crew – did an amazing job, and I’m thrilled it resonated with everyone.

The movie’s reviews showed a 50

Tammi remembers how critical reviews often come out before general audience feedback, and she finds the difference between the two frustrating. However, she assures fans that the team is still dedicated to making sure they enjoy the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.

Our main goal with these movies was to please our existing fans and anyone we knew would be excited to see them, and thankfully, they really are enjoying them. That’s been our biggest priority, and we’re happy with the positive response.

Critics haven’t been impressed with either of the Five Nights at Freddy’s movies. The first film was considered not scary, especially when compared to the popular video game series it’s based on, earning it a 33

As we’ve already seen, audiences have made Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 another win for Blumhouse. It earned a strong 85

Even though the recent digital release means Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 likely won’t reach the original’s impressive $297.1 million box office total, its success despite mixed reviews is encouraging for the future of the series. Matthew Lillard has a contract for three films, and the sequel ended with several unresolved plot points hinting at more to come. Because audiences are still enthusiastic about the Blumhouse adaptations and are defending the films, the director should build on the lessons learned from the first two movies when making the next one.
