Sometimes, people end up falling for characters who aren’t real, and feel a strong connection that leads them to imagine a relationship with someone fictional.
A unique new event in Japan will give 15 randomly selected fans the chance to ‘marry’ a character from the popular Yakuza (Like a Dragon) video game series.
This covers everything from the wedding ceremony, including signing the marriage certificate, to the possibility of divorce and its paperwork.
This isn’t a legally recognized commitment, but it’s treated as if it were on the day of the ceremony. However, similar to a traditional wedding, it can be quite expensive. The package costs 150,000 yen, which is about $980 or £740.
However, the price includes a professional hair and makeup artist, as well as a photographer to capture your special day. You’re also welcome to invite your loved ones to be a part of it.
So, what exactly are you marrying? It’s a life-sized cardboard cutout of a character from the game. You can ‘marry’ popular characters like Kiryu, Majima, and Ichiban, but even supporting characters like Daigo and female characters like Seonhee are available to be your ‘spouse’.
The event will also feature augmented reality through an official app, likely allowing you to take photos with your partner.
The exhibition will be held in Tokyo from November 28th to December 22nd, and then in Osaka from February 6th to February 24th, if you’d like to visit.
We think you’ll find this amazing! Just let us know – will you be traveling to Japan to finalize everything? And, for fun, tell us in the comments who you’d marry!
