Forgotten Konami PS2 Games Return This July With New Remasters

Two classic Konami games originally released on the PlayStation 2 are getting remastered and will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch (including the new Switch 2) this July. Sadly, PlayStation 4 and 5 owners won’t be able to play these updated versions. However, if you grew up with these games and have a Nintendo console or a PC, you’ll be able to enjoy them again starting July 30th. These are visual novel games aimed at a female audience.

Konami has announced that remasters of two The Prince of Tennis games – Sweet School Festival 0-40 and more… and Doki Doki Survival eternal passion! Tie-break game – will be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC starting July 30th. These versions will support multiple languages, including English. While the games will be released digitally worldwide, a physical copy will be available in Japan and Asia for Nintendo Switch owners, and a limited edition will also be offered.

What’s New

As a big fan, I’ve been following the news about these releases, and Konami is calling them remasters – not ports, enhanced ports, or full-on remakes. Honestly, though, it’s a little confusing! Konami hasn’t really said what they’ve remastered. They’ve put out trailers, which I’ve watched, but it’s not immediately clear what’s actually new or different in these versions. I’m hoping they’ll share more details soon!

These Konami games weren’t popular outside of Japan, so it’s unexpected to see them make a comeback, especially worldwide. This is even more surprising considering Konami recently stepped back from game development because other areas of their business were more profitable. What’s really strange is that there are no plans for a new game in the series, and it doesn’t seem likely one will be made.

Konami isn’t alone in revisiting its older games. Many game companies are now focusing on remasters and re-releases, particularly those from the PlayStation 2 era. In fact, one of the highest-rated games released last month, based on player reviews, was a remastered version of a PS2 title.
