Former Doctor Who showrunner argues BBC has a “national duty” to keep making show

In light of some uncertainty regarding Doctor Who‘s ongoing production, Steven Moffat, a previous showrunner, has expressed his viewpoint that the BBC carries a sense of responsibility at a national level to keep producing this program.

In the period between 2010 and 2017, which is often referred to as the time of Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi, this writer was in charge of the popular sci-fi series. However, more recently, this writer has resumed writing duties for the season 14 episode titled Boom and also the Christmas special named Joy to the World.

After the recent episode titled The Reality War, where Ncuti Gatwa transformed into Billie Piper, there is still uncertainty about whether Disney will authorize additional seasons. However, Kate Phillips, the chief content officer at the BBC, has reassured fans that the series will persist on BBC, regardless of Disney’s decision.

I’m not privy to any insider information, and my interactions with Russell [T Davies] are limited to discussions about our current work for Channel 4 on shows like Tiptoe and Number 10. As for the future, I share your hope that there is one, but my knowledge of what lies ahead is vague at best.

The spin-off has been filmed, and I suspect decisions won’t be made until it’s aired, which is not happening soon. However, it’s always disheartening when a show goes off air. I believe the BBC has a national responsibility to produce Doctor Who.

It’s good news that Phillips seems to agree. At the Edinburgh TV Festival, she stated: “For all you Doctor Who fans, take comfort – Doctor Who isn’t disappearing anywhere.

As a devoted fan, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed Disney’s collaboration and am excited for our upcoming project, “The War Between The Land And The Sea,” slated for next year. However, I want to clarify that regardless of whether Disney remains a part of our journey or not, Doctor Who will continue gracing the BBC screens in the future!

She went on to assure fans: “The TARDIS is going nowhere.”

Lindsay Salt, head of BBC Drama, mentioned recently that they don’t have any new information about the future of Doctor Who yet, but the BBC remains dedicated and devoted to the show.

During this time, enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate the forthcoming spin-off titled “The War Between the Land and the Sea,” scheduled to premiere next year, featuring actors Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
