Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, Wife Dead in Murder-Suicide

A former government official is at the center of a horrific tragedy.

Justin Fairfax, the former lieutenant governor of Virginia (2018-2022), died in an apparent murder-suicide. Police confirmed he shot and killed his wife, Dr. Cerina Fairfax, before taking his own life at their home in Annandale.

Police Chief Kevin Davis said at a press conference on April 16th that the suspect had received some legal documents. These documents reportedly detailed his next court date, and Davis suggested this could have been a contributing factor to the incident.

Police are still investigating why this happened, and detectives are working to understand the events that led to the tragedy, according to Davis.

Fairfax, age 47, and Cerina, 49, got married in 2006 after they met while studying at Duke University. They had two teenage children, a son and a daughter, who were both at home when the shooting happened. Their son was the one who first called 911, according to police.

Davis highlighted the tragic events, stating that a mother was fatally shot, leaving her children behind, and the perpetrator then died by suicide.

Investigators are exploring several possibilities as they continue their investigation. According to a statement to NBC News, authorities believe Fairfax’s actions may have been triggered by a difficult and complicated divorce and a related domestic dispute.

The police chief also mentioned that the couple continued to live in the same house in Annandale, but were now sleeping in separate bedrooms.

As a lifestyle expert, I always believe it’s important to address difficult truths. Back in 2019, when I was following the career of Lieutenant Governor Fairfax, some very serious allegations came to light. Two women publicly accused him of sexual assault. One alleged a rape occurred back when they were both students at Duke University in 2000, and the other claimed he forced her into a sexual act at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. These were deeply troubling accusations that understandably sparked a lot of discussion and scrutiny.

Fairfax strongly denied the accusations, stating both encounters were consensual. Despite calls from colleagues for him to step down, he continued to serve until 2022.

Fairfax, a former candidate for governor, stated at the time that he had nothing to hide and that any investigation would confirm his version of events, as reported by NBC News. He maintained that his account was truthful.
