Get ready, Fortnite fans! A new season has just dropped with today’s update.
The beginning of Chapter 7 Season 2 brings a lot of exciting new content, just like with every new season.
So, what’s new in today’s Fortnite update? Here’s an overview of what to expect in the new patch.
Fortnite update today (19 March): What changes in the new season?
Today’s update marks the start of Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 2, dubbed Fortnite Showdown.
In Showdown, players will choose to join either Team Foundation or Team Ice King and compete throughout the season to help their team win.
The team that wins Season 2 will receive either the Frost-Ready Foundation skin or the Exalted Frost Ice King skin, but only if they purchased the Battle Pass.

New Battle Pass
Okay, so the new Battle Pass is out! They actually lowered the price, which is awesome – it’s only 800 V-Bucks now. And get this, The Foundation is back – you get to play as Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character! I’m definitely grabbing it.
If you get it before March 26th, you’ll receive a special Stealth Tech Foundation bonus, including a unique Style and accessories.
Plus, as you advance through the Battle Pass, you’ll unlock cool rewards like the Ice Prince Sidekick, Ice King’s Frostwalker Kicks, and new outfits for The Order (Reforged), Elite Jules, and Bugs Bunny.
New map and items
The map now features three new areas to explore: New Sanctuary, Frigid Fortress, and Dark Dominion.
Along with those, we’ve got new movement items such as the Overdrive Grenade and Skyline Deployer.
Players can now find new items in the game, including the Vector 7 DMR, Ice King’s Gauntlets, and the Chaos Reloader Shotgun.
Fortnite downtime: When are the Fortnite servers back up?
Today’s Fortnite downtime began at 7am GMT and is expected to last several hours.
We don’t have an exact time for when everything will be back up, but we’re estimating between 10am and 12pm GMT, with a possible margin of error.
Major updates like new seasons often require more downtime than usual. It’s best to prepare for the possibility that it will take the full estimated time, or even a bit longer.
