Season 2 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has finished, leaving fans eager for the upcoming Golden Land Arc. The story follows Frieren and her companions as they continue their adventure north, now with Fern as a fully-fledged mage. Along the way, they encounter both new friends and familiar faces as they journey across the continent. Their ultimate destination, Aureole – the resting place of souls – remains distant, but they’re determined to reach it. This season, consisting of 10 episodes, covers the events of their ongoing travels and the Divine Revolte Arc, while also laying the groundwork for the highly anticipated Golden Land Arc. This arc is considered a highlight of the manga, introducing Mahat, a powerful figure from the Golden City and one of the Seven Sages of Destruction.
After the final episode aired, the anime’s website published interviews with the voice actors for Frieren (Atsumi Tanezaki), Fern (Kana Ichinose), and Stark (Chiaki Kobyashi). They discussed their experiences with the new season, how it differed from the first, and their overall impressions of the story. Kana Ichinose, who voices Fern, specifically talked about how her character evolved from Season 1.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Star Addresses The Change in Fern’s Character

Ichinose explained that the second season of the show revealed a different side of Fern. She pointed to a line Fern says to Stark – ‘I’m free tomorrow. Please keep me company.’ – as an example, noting that Fern likely wouldn’t have said something so direct in the first season. Ichinose believes this honesty came about because Fern and Stark’s relationship strengthened and they became closer during their travels, allowing the usually strong and dependable Fern to show more vulnerability and open up emotionally.
She explained that the second season beautifully showed how the characters evolved. Despite only being ten episodes, it felt much longer and was full of emotionally resonant moments. She especially appreciated the development of Fern’s internal struggles and the strengthening bond between the three main characters, leaving her with a sense of a truly fulfilling journey.
Fern is a fan-favorite character who started traveling with Frieren long before Stark. Having known Frieren since childhood, she’s become a remarkably skilled mage. The actress who voices Fern notes that her character has grown throughout their journey, especially in her developing relationship with Stark, as she’s learning to become more open and vulnerable with him.
They have very different personalities, leading to frequent arguments, and often leaving Fern feeling frustrated with Stark. Even though the second season was short, it effectively showed Fern’s growth while still highlighting her dependability as part of the group.
When Is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3 coming out?

Immediately after the season two finale aired, the anime’s website announced that a third season is planned for 2027. Along with this news, a new key visual was revealed, giving fans their first glimpse of Mahat of the Golden City, a central character in the upcoming season. Mahat is one of the incredibly powerful Seven Sages of Destruction, and his abilities far surpass those of typical adventurers.
The Golden Land Arc lasts for 28 chapters, and we won’t know if the third season will cover any additional storylines until we learn how many episodes it will have. You can watch the first two seasons of the anime on Crunchyroll, and the third season will also be available there when it’s released.
