Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Returns With a New Anime Ahead of Season 3

The second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, which adapted what many fans consider the best story arc from the manga, finished airing in March. The show follows Frieren and her companions as they travel north, with Fern now a fully qualified mage. Their ultimate goal is to reach Aureole, a legendary place where spirits reside, though it’s still a long journey. This season focused on the ‘Continued Travels’ and ‘Divine Revolte’ arcs, and also began setting up the events of the ‘Golden Land’ arc. Recently, @animetv_jp, a trusted source for anime and manga news, announced that a special Frieren event will be held at Anime Expo on July 4th, 2026.

Anime Expo, a popular annual event celebrating Japanese animation and culture in California, is happening July 2nd-5th. For over thirty years, it’s been a place for fans to get exciting news and merchandise. Because the convention is so close to the release of the anime’s third season, attendees are likely to get some new updates. More details about this year’s event will be announced soon.

What to Expect From Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 3

Season 3 of the anime is scheduled to premiere next October and will cover the highly anticipated Golden Land Arc. The official website revealed this news and also shared a first glimpse of Mahat, a key character for the arc. As one of the Seven Sages of Destruction, Mahat is expected to be incredibly powerful. The new season will follow Frieren’s group as they travel to a legendary land said to be made of gold.

The anime has revealed that Denken, a powerful mage who took the exam with Fern, comes from a mysterious land that Frieren’s group doesn’t yet know exists. They’ll meet up with him again in Season 3 and help him face a difficult challenge as he prepares for his final battle.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End  Is Still on Indefinite Hiatus

The anime is currently on hold while fans wait for its next season. The manga has also been on break since October 2025, with no news yet about when it will continue. This pause was announced because the creators, writer Kanehito Yamada and illustrator Tsukasa Abe, needed time to focus on their health and work on the series at a comfortable speed.

This is the second time the series has paused this year. It briefly returned in July after a break in January, but is now on hiatus again. The creators are using this time to rest and work on the story at a sustainable pace. They’re adjusting their schedule and plan to resume publishing in a few months.
