The highly anticipated second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will premiere on January 16, 2026. Following the popularity of the first season, which aired in two parts, viewers are eager to see Frieren’s adventures with Fern and Stark continue. The original manga, created by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, launched in 2020 and quickly became a bestseller, winning awards like the Taisho Award. However, the manga has faced occasional breaks in publication due to the authors’ health. After an extended hiatus in 2025, it briefly returned in July before going on another break in October.
I’m so excited to share an update on the series! The creators are still hard at work, even during the break, but we’re still waiting to find out when it’ll be back. On top of that, Volume 15 of the manga just came out in Japan on December 18th, 2025, and everyone’s hoping to hear about a worldwide release soon! Apparently, select bookstores are hosting a special event to celebrate the new volumes, and if you go, you can get a really cool Magical Character Card 2 with voice acting from the main characters! This volume covers chapters 138 through 147, which means the next one might take a little longer to come out, depending on when the series returns from its break.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Continues The Journey to Aureole

Now that Fern has become a First Class Mage and Season 1 has concluded, Frieren’s group still has a significant journey ahead to reach Aureole. Season 2 will begin with the party continuing their travels across the Northern Plateau. This area is known for being incredibly dangerous, teeming with powerful monsters and a high level of magical energy. Because of these threats, any travelers venturing through the region typically need at least one First Class Mage for protection.
The first season of the anime had 28 episodes, split into two parts, and covered the first 60 chapters of the original manga. We don’t yet know how many episodes Season 2 will have, making it hard to say which story arcs it will include. Since the ‘Continued Northern Travels’ arc is relatively short at just 10 chapters, it’s likely that the ‘Divine Revolte’ and ‘Golden Land’ arcs will also be animated.
You can watch the second season of the anime on Crunchyroll and Netflix, and both seasons are available there. If you’d like to read the manga, all chapters are free on Viz Media’s Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End website. You can also purchase digital or physical copies of the manga volumes there. Currently, 14 volumes are available in English, with the next one expected to be released in a few months.
