Game of Thrones star Kit Harington has defended the final season of the show.
The fantasy series, inspired by George RR Martin’s books, ended in 2019 with its eighth season. However, the finale received criticism, as many viewers felt that several character stories and plot lines were not properly concluded.
Kit Harington, known for playing Jon Snow throughout the eight seasons of the show, recently shared at Motor City Comic Con in Michigan that he’s very defensive of the show’s final season.
I saw the process from the inside, while everyone else only saw the finished result. Because of that, I understand how much effort, care, and dedication went into creating it – all the discussions, debates, and hard work that happened along the way.
He explained that bringing the show back wouldn’t be easy. It’s a very complicated, long, and detailed undertaking. He believes the people who originally adapted the source material for television – those who created the first seven seasons – are best suited to handle it.
You know, when it comes down to it, sure, maybe the movie wasn’t perfect – we all have our opinions on what works and what doesn’t. But honestly, I think they absolutely did the right thing by making it. At the end of the day, they’re the ones who gave us this film, and I’m sticking with that. I’m glad they went for it.
“Like, I feel very defensive of it as a show and as a season. And I think I always will, actually.”

Although the original Game of Thrones series finished in 2018, the world of Westeros lives on. The prequel, House of the Dragon, launched in 2022 and its third season is coming this summer.
Another prequel series, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, also debuted this year. It’s based on George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ stories.
And there are other Game of Thrones spin-offs in the works, too.
George R.R. Martin revealed in November that besides ‘The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ and ‘House of the Dragon’, several other ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off shows are being worked on, and most of them will take place before the events of the original series.
He added that he’s currently working on five or six different series, with help from other creators, and that some sequels are also in the works.
The third season of House of the Dragon is coming to HBO Max in June. You can currently stream the first two seasons, along with Game of Thrones and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested in subscribing to Sky TV, you can find more information about how to sign up.
