Okay, fellow Game of Thrones fans, get ready! I just heard from HBO that the new prequel, *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*, is hitting screens sooner than we thought. Apparently, they’ve given us a release window, and it’s happening relatively soon. I’m already excited to head back to Westeros!
According to HBO’s CEO, Casey Bloys, the new *Game of Thrones* spin-off is scheduled to premiere in January 2026, and the third season of *House of the Dragon* will follow later in 2026.
He told TheWrap at the Emmys that ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is expected in January, and the next season of ‘House of the Dragon’ will likely air too late to be considered for this year’s Emmy Awards.
The new six-episode series is inspired by George R.R. Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ stories. Peter Claffey will play the role of Ser Duncan the Tall, and Dexter Sol Ansell will star as the young Aegon V Targaryen, known as Egg.
This new series takes place nearly a century before the events of Game of Thrones, during the time when the Targaryen family still ruled Westeros.

The show will now arrive in early 2026, which is great news considering it was initially planned for release in 2025 but faced delays.
Long ago, when the Targaryen family still ruled Westeros and people remembered the last dragons, a group of unlikely friends found themselves facing great challenges, powerful enemies, and thrilling adventures.
Francesca Orsi, who heads up drama series and films at HBO, recently shared that viewers will be very impressed with the performances of Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, who play the lead characters Dunk and Egg. She highlighted the strong, brotherly bond and the father-son dynamic between the two actors’ characters.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear they’re already thinking long-term about this show! It’s not officially greenlit for more seasons *yet*, but things are looking really promising. They’re actually envisioning the whole story – seasons two and three – as one big arc, since it’s based on a series of three novellas. It’s exciting to know they’re planning for a complete adaptation!
It sounds like there will be plenty of trips to Westeros in the near future, then.
