The Game of Thrones universe is expanding even more ahead of its return.
Ahead of the third season of House of the Dragon premiering this summer, the popular fantasy series is expanding with a new HBO release. Since the original Game of Thrones ended, the world of Westeros has continued to grow through two spin-off TV shows set hundreds of years in the past. Plus, even more stories are in the works, including a movie called Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, which tells the story of how House Targaryen rose to power.
Ahead of the return of House of the Dragon on HBO, the network will launch several Game of Thrones podcasts in Europe this June. These podcasts, available on HBO Max, will offer fans discussions about all three Game of Thrones TV series. The podcasts being released are The Game of Thrones Anniversary Podcast Special, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Podcast, and The Game of Thrones Podcast: House of the Dragon. All three will be available starting in June.
Alongside the regular podcasts, a special video podcast dedicated to House of the Dragon will launch in June to coincide with the season 3 premiere on HBO and HBO Max on June 21, 2026. Also, a Harry Potter podcast covering the first eight films is being released in Europe today, May 19, 2026, before HBO’s new Harry Potter TV series begins. This is in addition to the existing Game of Thrones podcast.
HBO is expanding its presence in the world of Westeros with a new podcast, joining others created for shows like The Last of Us and The Pitt. Releasing this podcast in Europe before House of the Dragon returns is a smart move to generate excitement internationally and deepen fans’ engagement with the series. By adding podcasts to its existing lineup of shows, HBO is reaching a wider audience of franchise enthusiasts.
Over the next few years, fans can expect a lot more content from the world of Game of Thrones. Season 3 of House of the Dragon is coming out this year, and season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is planned for early 2027, with filming currently underway. Season 4 of House of the Dragon will follow in 2028, completing the story arc focused on the Dance of the Dragons. A movie based on Aegon’s Conquest is also being developed, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.
These podcasts enrich the stories of Westeros, both new and old. They significantly expand the world of Game of Thrones, deepening fans’ connection to the shows and adding exciting new layers to the history and development of Westeros. Expanding into Europe will help the podcasts reach listeners worldwide, making them a great addition to this growing franchise.
