After more than a year of no news, Xbox has given fans an update on the release of Gears of War: E-Day. The game was first announced with a trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, but there haven’t been any updates since then. While we haven’t seen any gameplay yet, Xbox has confirmed that E-Day is still scheduled to launch within its original timeframe.
Xbox recently announced on social media that Gears of War: E-Day is still planned for release in 2026. Along with this update, they shared new artwork for the game featuring the Gears logo and the tagline “Emergence Begins.” This hints that E-Day will be a prequel, showing the very beginning of the war with the Locust – the event known as E-Day.

Okay, so we still don’t know a ton about Gears of War: E-Day, but it’s awesome that Xbox is finally starting to hint at it! This little teaser they dropped makes me think we might get a full reveal next month at the Xbox Developer Direct – they’ve confirmed that’s happening sometime in January. They haven’t said everything that’ll be shown – Fable and Forza Horizon 6 are confirmed – but Gears of War: E-Day being there would totally make sense, considering it’s one of their biggest games coming next year. I’m really hoping we find out the full lineup for the Developer Direct soon, I’m hyped to learn more!
Currently, Gears of War: E-Day is being developed for Xbox Series X/S and PC. While it’s likely to eventually be released on PS5, that hasn’t been officially announced.
