The Xbox Games Showcase started with a brand new look at gameplay for Gears of War: E-Day, along with its release date. Xbox had previously announced they would share details about this highly anticipated prequel before its launch later this year. While a more in-depth look is coming in a dedicated presentation after the showcase, Xbox and The Coalition quickly revealed some key highlights right away.
After showcasing a lengthy gameplay demo for Gears of War: E-Day, Xbox announced the game will be released on October 6th of this year. Interestingly, E-Day will only be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC, making it an exclusive title for Xbox platforms. While Xbox games are often exclusive, this is a bit unexpected considering the recent Gears of War remaster was released on PlayStation 5, leading some to believe future games might also appear on PlayStation.
The gameplay reveal for Gears of War: E-Day showed an early battle between Marcus Fenix and the Locust. In the demo, Fenix is fighting enemies in civilian clothes, as they emerge and overrun the city streets. This is a different setting for the series, suggesting that E-Day will be more realistic and down-to-earth than previous Gears of War games.
Another dedicated presentation for Gears of War: E-Day is happening in the next hour, and we’re expecting to see a deep dive into the game’s multiplayer features. We’ll share any important news or details from the presentation here on ComicBook as soon as they’re revealed.
