The Palme d’Or isn’t the only gold treasure at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

Gillian Anderson showed off a striking new hairstyle, switching from her usual straight, blonde hair to big, bouncy curls.

At a recent event on May 13th, the 57-year-old actress showed off a new hairstyle alongside a floral beaded dress from Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection. She wore the outfit at a photo call for her film, Teenage Sex And Death At Camp Miasma.

The Crown alum stars in the upcoming Jane Schoenbrun-directed slasher film alongside Hannah Einbinder. 

Gillian portrays Billy, a withdrawn actress famous for starring in a horror movie from the 1980s. Hannah plays Kris, a director who wants Billy to reprise her role in a new version of the film, but things could turn dangerous.

The actors have been secretive about the movie, but Gillian Anderson shared that filming one very graphic scene caused her to have a panic attack.

She described one day on set as “pretty serious” in a May 13 interview with Variety, recalling the overwhelming amount of fake blood used and the challenge of filming a scene without being overwhelmed by it. “It was a lot!” she said.

The film explores themes of obsession and intense fandom, which resonated with the X-Files actress because it reminded her of the dedicated fans of her own popular, older show.

After attending several Comic Cons over the past year, I’ve noticed how many different types of people are deeply passionate and dedicated – not just as fans, but because these events offer a welcome escape.

She continued, “Because this film is the ultimate escape fodder.”

Gillian Anderson’s recently embraced curly hair is just the latest in a series of hairstyles she’s experimented with. Dedicated fans will remember quite a bit of discussion about her hair when she reprised her role in the X-Files revival back in 2015.

Gillian Anderson recalled that fans strongly insisted her character, Dana Scully, keep her red hair. She told Entertainment Weekly she was amused by the intense discussion surrounding it, saying, “I appreciate their enthusiasm, but goodness me!”
