Gillian Anderson Resurrects A Slasher Franchise In R-Rated Teenage Sex & Death At Camp Miasma Trailer

Gillian Anderson is hired to revive a slasher franchise in the trailer for her new horror movie.

Although it’s not yet confirmed if Gillian Anderson will return as Dana Scully in Ryan Coogler’s new X-Files project, she’s been very busy with other roles recently. These include parts in The Abandons as Constance Van Ness, The First Lady as Eleanor Roosevelt, The Crown as Margaret Thatcher, Sex Education as Jean Milburn, Tron: Ares as Elisabeth Dillinger, White Bird as Vivienne Beaumier, and The Pale Blue Eye as Julia Marquis.

Jane Schoenbrun’s new horror film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, stars Hannah Einbinder of Hacks. The movie premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, currently holding a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 46 reviews. It also won the Queer Palm award, recognizing its LGBTQIA+ themes.

A new trailer for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma is out now. It starts with Billy Preston (Anderson) explaining to Kris (Einbinder) that she enjoys the thrill of potentially being attacked by a killer, immediately followed by screams and a geyser of blood. The trailer highlights that Kris is brought in to reboot the Camp Miasma slasher series, and to do so, they’ve hired the original film’s final girl, Billy Preston (Anderson). You can watch the trailer below.

Okay, so the trailer really got me with this one! It seems Billy is convinced that this movie slasher, Little Death, is actually real, and honestly, the killer’s look is giving me major Silent Hill‘s Pyramid Head vibes. The rest of the trailer is just this crazy, surreal, and kinda twisted horror unfolding as Kris and Billy get closer. It gets super intense, with a lot of brutal killings, and it all builds to this shocking image of Kris and Billy covered in blood, holding hands – which, by the way, is exactly what’s on the movie poster. It’s seriously unsettling and has me completely hooked!

Similar to his earlier films, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma explores themes of queer identity and the influence of media on personal development. These three movies are connected by these themes and are considered the filmmaker’s “Screen Trilogy,” though each one tells a unique story with different characters. You don’t need to watch them in any particular order to appreciate each film.

Critics are praising the new horror series from the same creator as I Saw the TV Glow and We’re All Going to the World’s Fair. Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma currently has a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing the 85% and 91% scores of the previous installments. Even if the score drops, it’s still on track to be the highest-rated entry in the ‘Screen Trilogy’. The series boasts a strong cast, including Phoebe Bridgers and Tim Heidecker in the lead roles, as well as familiar faces like Zach Cherry (Severance), Sarah Sherman (Saturday Night Live), Patrick Fischler (Lost), and Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets).

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma releases in theaters on August 7.
