Even though details had already surfaced, Santa Monica Studio has officially announced their next God of War game: God of War Laufey, which will center around the character of Faye.
The studio recently shared a 23-minute gameplay video of the new PlayStation 5 game, which you can view above. According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, the game will be released soon and is now available to add to your wishlist on PS5.
Here’s the story setup:
Laufey, known as Faye, was a warrior and Kratos’s wife, and her death wasn’t the end of her story. She unexpectedly wakes up in a mysterious realm after her funeral, realizing the safeguards she created to protect Kratos and Atreus are failing. To save her family, Faye must battle her way through the afterlife—a timeless land called the Everywhen—where powerful and dangerous gods from various myths are locked in a struggle for control and magic runs wild.
The combat in this installment is being called “intimate” and “brutal.” While it aims to deliver the familiar feel of a God of War fight, Laufey’s combat style emphasizes speed, agility, and fluid movement.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the latest game blends the graceful combat and movement of ancient Greece with the rich, character-driven world-building of Norse mythology. This combination has allowed the development team to be more creative while still honoring the core elements that make the God of War series special.
The voice cast is as follows:
- Faye — Deborah Ann Woll
- Phranque (the cube) — Jack Quaid
- Rue — Perlina Lau
