Since whispers of a remaster and a 2.5D side-scroller that didn’t come to fruition, the God of War series has been relatively quiet since 2022’s Ragnarok. Yet, its upcoming project is definitely under development, as per Jason Schreier from Bloomberg on ResetEra. It appears that Cory Barlog will once again take up the director’s role.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited when I hear whispers about Sony Santa Monica’s upcoming project being referred to as their “next big thing.” Just recently, I managed to gather some info (a month or two back), and it seemed like things were progressing smoothly. Whether this is the next installment in the God of War series, the rumored Metroidvania spin-off, or something entirely new remains a mystery for now.
In other words, according to Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb, the upcoming installment in the critically-acclaimed action-adventure series has been pushed back internally to 2026. It’s possible we might see an announcement by the end of this year, but Sony hasn’t officially acknowledged that a new game is underway yet.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for further information. Meanwhile, “God of War Ragnarok” is now playable on both PS4 and PS5; take a look at our review. As of November 2023, it has sold over 15 million units globally and has received various updates, such as the free “Valhalla” expansion. The latest addition, the Dark Odyssey Collection, was released in March and includes a new Kratos skin, armor set, and numerous other features. Click here for comprehensive details.
