God of War’s Mainline Sequel Will Introduce Curved Egyptian Swords to Kratos’ Arsenal – Rumour

Rumors have been circulating about a smaller *God of War* game focusing on Kratos’ past, but a new report suggests the next major installment will introduce a completely new weapon for the character. According to gaming insider Tom Henderson, Kratos will wield a curved sword reminiscent of ancient Egyptian scimitars in the upcoming *God of War* game.

According to recent reports, a Metroidvania game and a new installment in the *God of War* series are both currently in development. The new *God of War* game appears to share thematic similarities with previous titles, but features Kratos wielding a curved, Egyptian-style sword, reminiscent of the weapon used in *Prince of Persia*.

He also mentioned the upcoming Sony State of Play event is likely where we’ll see the announcement of a smaller, metroidvania-style *God of War* game. He believes a new trailer for *Marathon* could also be shown during the event.

Rumors about a smaller-scale *God of War* game began circulating in March, suggesting it could be released this year. Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb reports that this new title will return to the setting of ancient Greece – similar to the early *God of War* games – but will tell a completely separate story.

The upcoming action adventure game, described as a 2.5D metroidvania, has been delayed. It was originally planned for release in 2025, but is now expected next year. The game will feature a younger Kratos and delve into his complex relationship with his father. According to reports from February, the story heavily focuses on this father-son dynamic.

Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind popular games like God of War, is reportedly developing a new project. Sources say they’re reimagining an existing game franchise, and the changes could be as significant as the transformation seen in the 2018 God of War compared to the older games on PlayStation 2 and 3.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg explained the studio’s new project by saying it won’t be a completely new game franchise, but it could certainly feel that way. He believes this might be causing some confusion. He also asked people not to press him for details, stating that any further information he shares will be through a published article, not on social media or forums.

According to Schreier, Cory Barlog is leading the project, and development was reportedly progressing smoothly a few months ago.

Sony and Santa Monica Studio haven’t officially confirmed the existence of the rumored *God of War* projects, and they haven’t announced what they’re working on next.
