GOG, a digital game store for PC, is offering a free sci-fi horror game for the next 48 hours to celebrate Halloween. While normally priced at $7.99, it’s completely free to claim! Just remember, you need to add it to your GOG library within the next two days to keep it forever.
GOG is currently giving away a free PC game called Statis, a sci-fi horror adventure played from an overhead, point-and-click perspective. It’s the first game from developer The Brotherhood, who recently released Stasis: Bone Totem in 2023 – a surprisingly great horror title. While the original Statis from 2015 isn’t quite as polished, it’s still a good choice if you’re looking for more sci-fi horror experiences.
About the Game
The game puts you in the role of John Maracheck, who wakes up on a deserted spaceship feeling terrible pain. He’s been pulled out of stasis prematurely, and to make things worse, his wife and daughter are nowhere to be found. As you play, you’ll need to uncover the truth about what happened to his family and the ship itself, all before it crashes into Neptune’s dangerous methane clouds.
This game is an isometric point-and-click adventure, so you’ll spend a lot of time exploring and figuring out puzzles. Fortunately, the puzzles aren’t overly challenging or confusing, which is a plus. The game also features a great soundtrack by Mark Morgan, who previously composed the music for Fallout.
When Stasis came out in 2015, it received a good score of 79 on Metacritic. This is consistent with the 79% positive rating it has from players on Steam.
One Steam user said they don’t typically enjoy point-and-click puzzle games, but this one stands out because of its great retro sci-fi feel, making it worth a try.
I’m really into this game! It’s a classic point-and-click adventure with a fantastic story, and the graphics and sound are amazing. There are a few bugs that need fixing, but honestly, it reminds me so much of Sanitarium that I think it’s totally worth buying, no matter the price! Seriously, you won’t regret it.
So, if this new free horror game isn’t really doing it for me, that’s okay! There are actually a couple of other freebies over on the Epic Games Store right now, and I just saw a cool new free game on Steam that’s made to look like a classic PlayStation 1 title.
