Gogglebox pays tribute after cast member Ken Harwood dies aged 77 after ‘short illness’

Gogglebox honored Ken Harwood, a beloved cast member who recently passed away at 77 after a brief illness, with a tribute at the end of last night’s show.

Ken and Anne, a couple from County Durham, shared 55 years of marriage and became beloved stars on the Channel 4 show Gogglebox, appearing in series 15 through 19 between 2020 and 2022.

Ken, born in 1948 in Consett, County Durham, dedicated thirty years to working as a postmaster. He then served as a local councillor before retiring in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Anne, sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law Elle, and grandchildren Freya and Tristram, and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

A tribute to Ken and Anne appeared on the screen at the end of the latest Gogglebox episode, featuring a photo of them.

As shared on Instagram, Ken and Ann started appearing on the Channel 4 show in 2020. For their first episode, Ken surprised Ann with a bouquet of 50 roses, celebrating each year of their marriage.

Anne playfully replied, “You’ve completely outdone me with the card and roses – I didn’t get you anything! But I’m here, and that’s what matters.”

Studio Lambert, the company behind Gogglebox, shared that Ken will be greatly missed by his wife, Anne, his sons Simon and Ross, daughter-in-law Elle, and his grandchildren Freya and Tristram, as well as everyone who knew him.

As a TV critic, I’ve been watching Gogglebox for years, and it’s still delivering! The show, which started back in 2013, is now in its incredible 27th season. The premise is simple – we watch people watching TV and sharing their reactions – but it’s consistently funny and surprisingly insightful. It’s a testament to the show’s appeal that it’s still going strong after all this time.

A Gogglebox fan expressed their sadness on X (formerly Twitter) after hearing about Ken’s passing, writing, “Oh no, Ken died, I didn’t know. Rest in peace, Ken. Hoping Ann and his family are alright.” #Gogglebox

It’s very sad to hear about the passing of Ken Harwood. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who enjoyed watching him on Gogglebox. Rest in peace, Ken.
