Goldie Hawn Details Relationship with Laugh-In’s George Schlatter

This friendship is no laughing matter.

Goldie Hawn recently shared memories of her long relationship with George Schlatter, the creator of the show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. That show launched her career, and she recalled a particular piece of feedback that significantly changed how she approached her work.

She told Will Marfuggi of TopMob News at the April 13th premiere of the documentary Sock It To Me: The Legend of George Schlatter that it was a wonderful experience. She added that George Schlatter was one of the few people who truly understood her, even when they hadn’t known each other long. ‘He just got me,’ she said.

In fact, he let her be herself at a pivotal moment in her career. 

She remembered messing up during an early experience and instinctively laughing about it. She asked the person she was working with, George, if she could try again, but he told her, ‘No, Goldie, that was perfect.’ She said that moment marked the start of her career.

Although she didn’t appear on the show for as long as some of her fellow cast members like Dan Rowan, Dick Martin, and Ruth Buzzi, the 80-year-old—who has been with Kurt Russell for over forty years—still cherishes a wealth of memories, largely thanks to George, who is now 96.

She fondly remembered George, but more than specific memories, she cherished the feeling of being with people she loved. Being in the chorus with them felt like constant fun and laughter, and work never felt like work – it was more like playtime. While there are countless memories, she especially valued how wonderful it was to work in that environment.

Recently, Goldie’s family has been focusing more on who their team members are for each project.

Kate Hudson says working with her entire family – including her mom, stepfather Kurt, brother Oliver, and stepbrothers Wyatt and Boston – would be a dream come true.

In a recent conversation with TopMob News, Kate shared her thoughts on appreciating time with loved ones. “Life moves quickly,” she explained, “so I really try to savor every moment, especially the time I spend with my family and parents. I want to be fully present in those moments.”

The actor from Running Point expressed enthusiasm about potentially working with his mother, saying it would be a dream come true. However, he admitted it was unlikely, but added, “You never know!”

After all, everyone in her family are seasoned Hollywood pros.

Growing up in a family deeply involved in the industry gave me a natural understanding and familiarity with it. It’s a different experience than someone who doesn’t have that background, because my family inherently understands the business.

Goldie Hawn married actor Gus Trikonis, who appeared in West Side Story, in 1969. They split up in 1973, but Goldie didn’t officially divorce him until late 1975, after becoming engaged to Bill Hudson, a member of the Hudson Brothers band.

Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson married on July 3, 1976, following Goldie’s divorce. They had two children, Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson, before separating in 1980 and eventually divorcing in 1982.

In 2015, Oliver posted an old photo of himself with his parents, Bill and Kate, on Father’s Day with the caption, “Happy abandonment day…” Bill responded to this post in an interview with the Daily Mail, stating he no longer considers Oliver or Kate to be his children and asked them to stop using the family surname, Hudson. He described Oliver’s post as a deliberate and hurtful attack, and said he considers both of them estranged from his life.

Oliver revealed on Watch What Happens Live that the public disagreement surprisingly led to a conversation, and he reconnected with Bill after not speaking for twelve years.

In an April 2024 interview on CBS Sunday Morning, Kate shared that while she and Bill don’t have a close relationship yet, things are beginning to improve.

Honestly, I’ve learned to just let things unfold naturally, especially when it comes to family. With my dad, I don’t really expect anything specific, and that’s okay. My biggest wish is simply for his happiness – that’s what truly matters to me.

Bill has three children: Zachary and Emily with his late ex-wife, Cindy Williams, whom he was married to from 1982 to 2000, and Lalania, born in 2006 to him and Caroline Graham.

Goldie and Bill’s first child was born Sept. 7, 1976.

Similar to his sister Kate, Oliver was raised by their mother and her partner, Kurt Russell. However, in a 2018 interview on Larry King Live, Oliver mentioned he and Bill were making an effort to stay in touch.

I shared something funny, but with a dark edge, online and it unexpectedly brought my partner and me closer together,” the actor from Rules of Engagement explained. “We’ve been in contact ever since.

But Kurt will forever be his dad.

Oliver shared with Us Weekly in December 2025 that the actor from Miracle isn’t his biological father, but he still feels a strong connection. “I seem to pick up a lot of his habits,” Oliver explained, adding, “He’s incredibly energetic and passionate – he feels everything deeply, whether it’s love or laughter.”

Oliver explained that he inherited his mother’s sensitive nature. “I’m a very sensitive person—maybe too sensitive,” he said, adding that he takes 20 milligrams of Lexapro to help manage his feelings.

Oliver married Erinn Bartlett in 2006, and together they have three children: Wilder, born in 2007; Bodhi, born in 2010; and Rio, born in 2013.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first connected and fell in love on the set of their 1983 movie, Swing Shift, a romantic story set during World War II. They’ve been a couple ever since, and have chosen to remain together without getting married.

Kurt, who was married to actress Season Hubley from 1979 to 1983, shared in a 2020 interview on TODAY that he and his current partner had both gone through divorces.

Goldie explained that marriage ‘just didn’t suit either of us.’ While she doesn’t rule out getting married in the future, she never felt it was necessary. She believes that, for many couples, marriage has become more about legal and financial arrangements than about love.

Kate and Oliver, who consider Kurt a father figure and affectionately call him “Pa,” are also very close to Kurt and Season’s son, Boston Russell, who was born on February 16, 1980.

Kate recalled a confusing time when her mother started dating someone new. On her podcast, Sibling Revelry, she explained that as a child, she wondered if this man could become her father, and his son her brother. It was a lot for her to process at a young age, as it meant her families were starting to merge.

You know, Boston is a pretty private person, and he really values his family’s privacy too. But he does show up when it really matters – like when his parents, Kurt and Goldie, were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame back in 2017. It was a special moment, and he wouldn’t have missed it for the world!

Kurt and Goldie’s only child together, Wyatt Russell, was born July 10, 1986.

The actor known for his role in Thunderbolts used to play professional ice hockey in Europe. He had to stop playing in 2010 due to injuries and then began working full-time in his family’s business.

Wyatt married Meredith Hagner in 2019, and they have two sons: Buddy Prine, who was born in March 2021, and Boone Joseph, born on February 13, 2024.

Becoming a parent gave Wyatt a new understanding of his own parents, he shared with People magazine in April 2025. He realized they simply wanted him to be happy and live a good life – and that’s now all he wants for his own children. He believes his parents feel the same way about him.

Goldie shared with Australian Women’s Weekly in 2022 that her children and grandchildren are her greatest source of pride. She described being a grandmother as a wonderful experience, full of joy, and emphasized how much she values family.

Kate had her first child on January 7, 2004, with her husband at the time, Chris Robinson. They split up in 2006 and officially divorced in October 2007, but they’ve remained on good terms as they co-parent their child.

Kate described her relationship with the Black Crowes singer as a lasting one, though it had transformed over time. Speaking to The Times Online in 2009, she explained that they were destined to be parents together, and their son would keep them connected for life.

Chris announced in February 2026 that his son, Ryder, will graduate from NYU in May, expressing how incredibly proud he is.

Chris shared with People magazine that their son seems to be exploring acting, but he’s also incredibly talented musically – a skilled singer and guitarist who’s passionate about music.

The musician also described him as a remarkably well-rounded young man, saying he’s charming, intelligent, and good-looking, with a bright future ahead of him and the potential to achieve anything he sets his mind to.

In April 2025, Ryder celebrated his two-year anniversary with girlfriend Piper Lacy on Instagram. He had previously been in a relationship with Iris Apatow.

Kate and musician Matt Bellamy welcomed their son, Bingham, on July 9, 2011. They named him after both Matt’s mother, Marilyn Bingham, and Kate’s father, Bing Russell. Although they became engaged, the couple announced their separation in December 2014.

Breakups are always hard, but you have a choice in how you deal with them,” Kate explained in a 2015 interview with Allure. “If things had worked out between Matt and me, we’d still be together. We decided to go our separate ways because we wanted different things for our futures. But that doesn’t rule out the possibility of finding a way to co-parent and create the best situation for our children.”

Matt and Elle Evans got married in 2019 and have two children: Lovella, born in June 2020, and George, born in May 2024.

In a 2021 interview with Women’s Health, Kate shared something her husband, Matt, said that resonated with her: “He wanted to ensure their son, Bing, felt like he was gaining from the situation, not losing out on anything.” Kate believes this shared understanding has actually brought them closer, as they both prioritize protecting each other’s feelings.

Based on what his mom has told me, Bingham really loves playing the drums. He’s also a baseball player and seems interested in learning about finance.

Kate shared on Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2024 that her younger son invests in the stock market himself. She explained he stays informed about current events and understands the details of stocks and bonds, which she finds remarkable. She believes it will be fascinating to see how his interest develops as he gets older.

Kate began dating musician Danny Fujikawa in 2016. They had a daughter, Rani, on October 2, 2018. Danny, who had been a friend for many years, proposed in 2021.

In a 2022 interview with the Sunday Times, Kate shared her hopes for the future with her partner, saying, “I hope we get married!” While they aren’t rushing into things, she’s looking forward to it, explaining that she already has a lot on her plate and doesn’t want the added stress of wedding planning right now. She described a heartwarming moment from the previous night, when he was looking at old videos of himself and their daughter, Rani, which she found incredibly touching. Kate also praised him as a fantastic father and stepdad.

Kate Hudson, the actress known for Almost Famous, said she feels more capable and focused as a mother now that her son Ryder is grown. She was 24 years old when Ryder was born.

Oh my gosh, Ryder and I just have this incredible bond, you guys. It’s because I literally watched him grow up! Becoming a mom to him was like… my whole coming-of-age story, honestly. It wasn’t an accident, we wanted him so badly, it just felt right. We were so, so close – I was totally devoted, and he was to me. I took him everywhere with me, I couldn’t bear to be apart! I didn’t even send him to school until he was ten, I just wanted to keep him close. It’s different with my other kids, I’m more… organized with their schooling, I guess, but Ryder… he’s just special.

Outside of school, Rani travels the world with her parents. In 2024, she appeared in a SKIMS holiday ad campaign alongside her family – including her parents, brothers, uncle Oliver’s family, and grandmother Goldie.
