Scottie Scheffler is teeing up for life as a dad of two.
The world’s number one golfer has unexpectedly withdrawn from the Houston Open, Golf Channel reports.
Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the tournament because his wife, Meredith, is about to give birth to their second child. While the PGA Tour hasn’t commented on the reason for his withdrawal, Golf Channel confirmed the news.
At 29 years old and a father to 22-month-old Bennett, he was the favorite to win the Houston Open, having finished second in the tournament three times before. While he hadn’t previously won in Houston, 2025 proved to be a breakthrough year, as he won both the PGA Championship and the British Open, adding to his two earlier Masters victories.
Despite all his achievements, Scottie has frequently said that his family with Meredith is more important than winning.
He told reporters at the 2025 British Open, as reported by Sports Illustrated, that his wife always thanks him for his hard work when he leaves for the day. He makes sure to thank her when he returns home for taking care of their son.
I always say family comes first, and that’s genuinely true,” he explained. “I feel lucky to be able to play golf, but if it ever caused problems at home or strained my relationship with my wife or son, that would be the day I stopped playing professionally.

He stressed that wanting to be a good father was much more important to him than achieving success as a golfer, saying, “Ultimately, being a father is what matters most to me.”
Scottie shared that while winning and feeling accomplished is great, it’s not the most important thing to him.
He explained that while achieving these things feels good, it doesn’t bring true, deep satisfaction.
