Due to the upcoming release of “Grounded 2″ this month, executive producer Marcus Morgan from Obsidian Entertainment announced that they will not be shutting down servers for the initial version of “Grounded”. In a conversation with Eurogamer, Morgan explained their intention is to safeguard their games and keep them available.
Morgan mentioned that we deeply care about making our games timeless and continually relevant throughout history,” said he. “Our goal is to preserve our games effectively.
Although the original “Grounded” won’t receive updates adding fresh content to the survival crafting game, it will still be updated to squash any lingering bugs. For those eager to follow the story of “Grounded” further, the solution lies in playing the subsequent installment.
The person went on to ask, “Are we working on new content and storylines for Grounded 1?” He clarified, “Actually, those are for the sequel, Grounded 2. However, even in April, we rolled out update 1.4.7 for Grounded 1. We plan to continue maintaining it because there’s still interest in the game. So, it won’t be disappearing anytime soon; players can still enjoy Grounded 1 if they wish.”
In terms of progressing the narrative, we’re broadening the storyline: if you’re craving more of “Grounded“, we’ll be focusing more on “Grounded 2” rather than “Grounded 1“. We’re advancing things with “Grounded 2“.
Morgan explained that the game “Grounded” has a structure that supports peer-to-peer connections for its multiplayer feature. Although this method may seem old-fashioned, he pointed out that by incorporating peer-to-peer multiplayer and shared worlds, players can essentially use a “cloud save” to play with their friends, which helps ensure the game’s longevity even if servers are taken down.
He mentioned that it provides the feeling of having a dedicated server without the need for physical servers themselves.
He further clarified that his statement had nothing to do with the anti-loot box movement known as “Stop Killing Games.” Instead, he was emphasizing that the game they were discussing, referred to here as “[Grounded 1],” would have a more secure future if it followed a model where the game itself exists rather than being server-based.
Recently, the upcoming game “Grounded 2” unveiled a new trailer prior to its early access debut. This preview primarily concentrates on the game’s central narrative, revealing that Omniment Corporation, formerly known for their shrinking research projects, is re-emerging once more.
