GTA 6 boss reveals disastrous fate he’s trying to avoid, amid “terrifying” expectations

Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, has talked about how well Grand Theft Auto 6 could do, and admitted that if sales don’t reach a specific target, it would be a major failure.

As a huge GTA fan, it’s crazy to think it’s been over ten years since GTA 5 came out! And with GTA 6 finally coming out later this year, the hype is honestly unlike anything I’ve ever seen for a game. No other release has gotten me this excited, and I don’t think any other game has built up this much anticipation.

A lot of the excitement for GTA 6 is due to how long it’s been in development – it’s expected to be the most expensive video game ever created.

Zelnick understands the immense pressure surrounding the release. He told Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that while the anticipation is incredibly exciting, it’s also frightening because expectations are so high.

While 10 million sales would be a huge success for most game developers, it would be considered a failure for Rockstar Games and their upcoming release, GTA 6. This is based on the company’s expectations, as discussed by Zelnick, and how they plan to launch the game.

He explained that this is also a core issue with Take-Two’s overall strategy for console games: the cost of making those games keeps increasing.

“And we really do aim to deliver the highest quality entertainment on earth. And that is costly.

AI is definitely having an impact, but we haven’t noticed any reduction in costs so far. It’s uncertain whether that will change in the future.

According to Zelnick, this is simply the nature of running a studio as large as Rockstar. Their focus on making incredibly successful games gives them the financial freedom to invest far more than their competitors.

“That’s a high-stakes game for big boys only, and I’m cool with it,” he remarked.

He explained how Rockstar invests its money, primarily to support its skilled game developers.

Our creative teams are incredibly talented, and we strongly support – even require – them to follow their passions and explore their interests.

I’ve seen studios really go all-in on their games – throwing tons of money, talented people, and basically everything they’ve got at making something truly flawless. They’re always striving for perfection, and they expect to deliver it!

As the release of GTA 6 approaches in six months, excitement is building for another trailer. However, some fans are worried the game might be delayed until 2027.

Regardless of whether GTA 6 comes out this year, one thing is for sure: it’s going to be incredibly popular and sell a huge amount of copies.
