As Rockstar Games nears the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, they’ve hit a roadblock in a legal battle with former employees. These workers allege they were fired for trying to form a union.
We first learned about problems at Rockstar when they fired 31 employees on October 30, 2025, citing “gross misconduct.” Most of those affected worked at Rockstar North’s studio in Edinburgh.
Following the layoffs, Rockstar Games explained to Bloomberg that those fired had shared and talked about private company information publicly. They emphasized this was separate from any employee’s right to form or join a union.
The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) strongly criticized the dismissals as a deliberate attempt to harm workers. They stated that the 31 fired employees were members of a private Discord channel used for union organizing, and believe the firings were both illegal and in response to their union activities.
Okay, so Rockstar is saying these claims are totally false, but a recent hearing actually showed there are some questions that need answering. It’s going to a full hearing on September 10th where Rockstar will have to explain themselves and defend against accusations that they fired people to stop them from forming a union. As a fan, it’s a bit worrying to hear this is happening, and I’m hoping it gets resolved fairly.
TopMob has reached out to Rockstar Games for comment on the latest decision.

Ella Dunstan, one of the workers who was fired last year, stated that the ruling was a significant victory for them. She explained that their case would finally be fully examined and the evidence supporting their claims would be made public, allowing everyone to see what happened last October.
The hearing is scheduled from September 10th to October 15th. If there are no appeals, we expect a decision before Grand Theft Auto 6 comes out.
The disagreement could end in several ways. The tribunal might reject all the claims from the former Rockstar workers, or it could agree with some of them. Even if the workers were unfairly let go, the tribunal might decide Rockstar wasn’t intentionally targeting those involved with the union.
The tribunal could also decide that Rockstar illegally discriminated against workers due to their involvement with a union or union activities.
If the claimant wins their case, the tribunal might order the employer to provide solutions like financial compensation, offer the job back, or take other actions allowed by law. It’s also possible that both sides could agree on a resolution before the tribunal makes a final decision.
Regardless, TopMob Gaming will continue to provide coverage on the ongoing dispute.
