Everyone in the gaming world expects Grand Theft Auto 6 to be a record-breaking release, and other game companies are carefully planning their own releases to avoid competing with it.
After being announced and facing a couple of delays, Grand Theft Auto 6 is now on track to come out in November.
Any alterations to the game’s release date will frustrate gamers, but the complete absence of a third trailer—or even basic promotional updates—is causing concern among competing development teams.
Eric Chort, producer of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, recently told Eurogamer that concerns about the release of GTA 6 have influenced Asobo Studio’s decisions regarding when to launch their own game.
“All along the production, we were like, ‘Okay, our release date could be this year – and there’s GTA’,” Chort began. “All the studios in the world were thinking about it.
Everyone knows a new Grand Theft Auto game is huge – when it’s about to launch, it dominates everything in gaming, from marketing attention to how much time players spend playing. It’s simply the biggest title out there.

On how Asobo has opted to deal with the looming spectre of GTA, Chort continued:
It’s natural to want to change with the times or steer clear of challenges. But this year, there have been so many great games released that it feels like a shift in the industry itself. So our focus is simply on creating the best game we can.
We always aim to create the most genuine and unique game we can, working with the resources available to us. Our goal is to let our studio’s personality shine through and make something truly different from everything else out there.
“After that, you’ve done your best and you’ll see. But definitely, it’s an odd year to go out.”
To avoid competing with the highly anticipated release of GTA 6, many game developers are changing their plans. Some, like the team behind A Plague Tale Legacy, are releasing their games much earlier than originally intended, while others are delaying their launches until 2027 or later.
This has unexpectedly caused another problem for developers: September has become an incredibly competitive month for releasing new games and software.
These games – Silent Hill: Townfall, Control Resonant, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword – will all launch within a two-day span, just weeks following the releases of The Blood of Dawnwalker and Marvel’s Wolverine.
It’s still unclear if this strategy will succeed, but one thing is certain: for the next few weeks, everything revolves around Rockstar Games.
