Harry Potter TV series casting beloved character ahead of Chamber of Secrets episodes

As production for the TV series based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets gets closer, casting is underway for several important roles, including the character Colin Creevey.

Deadline reports that casting is now happening for a young actor to take on the role of the aspiring photographer previously played by Hugh Mitchell in the original movies. Casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann are leading the search.

Colin Crevey first shows up in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and he’s immediately very excited to meet Harry Potter, making it quite obvious.

He continued to appear in five additional books in the series. In the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Colin’s younger brother, Dennis, begins attending Hogwarts as well.

Production for the second season of the fantasy series is moving forward with casting. Recently, it was announced that Gracie Cochrane will no longer be playing Ginny Weasley, and the role is being recast.

The first season of the Harry Potter TV series is set to arrive on HBO Max this Christmas.

J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, has received criticism from some people because of her opinions on transgender rights.

In 2020, she released a detailed statement explaining her views on discussions about sex and gender. However, LGBTQ+ organizations like Stonewall criticized and challenged the essay’s arguments.

J.K. Rowling has expressed her opinions on social media, most recently in a 2024 post on X (formerly Twitter). In that post, she stated that she does not believe children can be transgender and argued against the idea that someone’s gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth.

In May 2025, J.K. Rowling established the JK Rowling Women’s Fund, which provides financial support for legal battles aimed at protecting women’s rights as defined by biological sex.

The stars of the Harry Potter films—Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson among them—have spoken out to support the transgender community and have made it clear they disagree with J.K. Rowling’s views on the topic.

Several prominent figures, like Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, and Jim Broadbent, have come to the author’s defense amidst recent criticism.

The Harry Potter series will be available to stream on HBO in the United States and HBO Max internationally starting December 25, 2026. In the UK, you can subscribe to HBO Max for as little as £5.99 per month.
