Has the Monsterverse Just Introduced a Titan More Powerful than Godzilla & Kong?

Season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has introduced a frightening new Titan. While the first season focused on the people within the Monarch organization and their personal connections, the new season is much more about the Titans themselves. The story takes place three years after the catastrophic G-Day and two years after Monarch publicly revealed its existence, meaning the world is now fully aware of the immense danger they face.

The premiere of Monarch Season 2 ended with the heroes unintentionally unleashing a massive new Titan from the Axis Mundi. We learned through flashbacks to 1957 that this Titan has appeared on Earth before, once being revered as a sea god by tribes in Chile, but it left around 200 years ago. This creature is clearly a powerful apex predator, and now that it’s left Skull Island, Kong’s home, it’s expected to cause widespread destruction. Known as “Titan X,” the question now is: how does its strength stack up against Godzilla and Kong?

What Exactly Is Titan X?

The second season of Monarch introduces Titanus X, a risky move for the series. The cast has emphasized that this new monster will be a significant competitor to both Godzilla and Kong. As Joe Tippett, who plays Tim, explained to ScreenRant:

I’m so thrilled they’re revealing this new monster! It’s a huge risk, honestly – it could be a massive hit, or… well, let’s just say the reaction could be intense. But I really believe people are going to adore it, and I can’t wait for everyone to finally see it. It’s got me wondering, though… will it challenge Kong and Godzilla? Could we be looking at a brand new titan taking the throne?

Titan X remains largely unknown, but it’s a colossal creature that’s more than just aquatic – it can thrive both on land and in the water. Trailers for Monarch Season 2 reveal it prefers the sea, using huge tentacles to destroy ships and pull them underwater. While Titan X isn’t fully shown in the first episode—which makes sense as it’s likely to be revealed gradually—we see a lot more of the strange and dangerous “Scarabs,” creatures similar to Face-Huggers, that appear to be connected to it.

The Titan X creature closely resembles the mythical Kraken, a giant sea monster famous for pulling ships underwater with its massive tentacles. Stories about the Kraken were especially popular between the 1600s and 1700s – the same period when Titan X seemingly disappeared. These legends often linked the Kraken to schools of fish, possibly influenced by remoras, or suckerfish, which attach themselves to sharks. Some tales describe the Kraken remaining still for extended periods, appearing like an island before suddenly sinking – a detail reflected in the opening credits of Monarch, which feature a news report about a Pacific island that vanished.

Interestingly, the Kraken was often said to disappear into a strong, dangerous whirlpool. This detail might connect to the tunnels Titans use to reach the Axis Mundi – powerful swirling currents that would be incredibly dangerous for any ship caught in them. While we can’t be certain, it’s possible that Titan X is the Monsterverse‘s take on the Kraken.

How Powerful Is Titan X Compared To Godzilla & Kong?

Joe Tippett hinted that Titan X is a major threat, potentially on par with Godzilla and Kong, making it one of the Monsterverse’s strongest creatures. Being an amphibian gives Titan X an advantage over Godzilla, as it can utilize the ocean – something we saw benefit Godzilla during his fight with Kong on the aircraft carrier. Unlike Godzilla, a creature like the Kraken might have used the sea to its advantage by pulling the carrier underwater and attempting to drown Kong – a tactic that could have been successful.

A battle between Titanus X and Godzilla is harder to predict. While both can fight underwater, eliminating Titanus X’s biggest strength, its powerful tentacles still pose a serious threat. These tentacles could easily constrict Godzilla and deflect his atomic breath. The opening sequence of Monarch Season 2 hints that Godzilla and Kong will have to join forces to defeat it, suggesting Titanus X is a formidable opponent even for Godzilla.

The new Scarabs are also a concern. While they add a compelling human element with exciting, Alienstyle action sequences where they threaten the human characters, they might actually be helping Titan X. This could give Titan X a significant edge in fights against other monsters. It’s still too early to know for sure, but so far, it seems Monarch* Season 2 has introduced a creature that could potentially challenge both Godzilla and Kong.
