Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Reveal Hints Vivienne Medrano Lied About 1 Alastor Detail

Warning: This article includes MAJOR SPOILERS for Hazbin Hotel season 2, episode 4!

Season 2 of Hazbin Hotel suggests that the show’s creator, Vivienne Medrano, may have been untruthful about a key detail concerning the character Alastor. The popular adult animated series has made a strong return with its second season, quickly becoming a streaming success. This season feels different from the first, with every scene appearing to be important to the story and revealing new information about the characters.

This week’s episodes, “Behind Closed Doors” and “It’s a Deal,” share surprising new information about Angel Dust and Alastor. We finally learn how Alastor became the powerful Radio Demon, and his past explains a lot about his abilities. It turns out he made a deal with the Hellborn demon Rosie to become the most powerful sinner in Hell.

But that’s not the only agreement Alastor makes during the episode. He also surprisingly strikes a deal with Vox. The details of this new deal suggest the show’s creator may not have been truthful about Alastor in a 2024 interview.

Creator Vivienne Medrano Said Alastor Doesn’t See Charlie As A Daughter

Shortly after the first season of Hazbin Hotel became available on Prime Video, Vivienne Medrano, the show’s creator, and the voice actors held a live question-and-answer session on the Vivziepop YouTube channel. During the livestream, Medrano discussed her ideas about the dynamic between Alastor and Charlie.

She argued that Alastor didn’t genuinely act like a father in the Hazbin Hotel song “Hell’s Greatest Dad.” She believes his claim of seeing Charlie as a daughter was just a way to upset Lucifer. But after watching season 2 of Hazbin Hotel, I’m sure he was lying.

Alastor’s Deal With Vox In Hazbin Hotel Season 2 Feels Like A Fatherly Act

Okay, so I’ve been totally hooked on Hazbin Hotel, and I think Alastor definitely played up how close he was to Charlie in the first season. But in season 2, episode 4, it’s super clear he’s acting like a protective dad. It all comes down to this deal he made – he’s basically Vox’s slave, having to endure whatever embarrassing stuff Vox throws at him, as long as Vox leaves Charlie alone. It’s a messed up arrangement, but it explains a lot of his behavior!

Alastor willingly gives up his independence for her, acting more like a parent than a friend. This dynamic is similar to Lucifer’s fight with Adam to safeguard Charlie, except Lucifer offered physical protection, while Alastor provided emotional support.

Alastor Keeping The Deal Secret Proves He’s Not Doing It To Annoy Lucifer

There might be hidden motives behind this agreement. If Alastor simply wanted to impress Lucifer and Charlie like he did with the previous situation involving Vox, he would have openly announced his help. Instead, he’s keeping everything quiet, which makes his actions seem more genuine and considered.

I don’t mind if Medrano bent the truth in that interview, if that’s what happened. I’d actually prefer she keep some surprises for the story. It’s also possible this is just a small part of a larger plan by Alastor. He’s unpredictable and wants to escape Rosie’s influence, though it’s not clear how this situation helps him achieve that.

Either way, it’s exciting to see this new side of Alastor in Hazbin Hotel season 2.
