HBO Max Is About to Lose Brendan Fraser’s Cult Dark Fantasy Trilogy Ahead of the New Sequel

Streaming services offer a huge library of movies and TV shows whenever you want, but content doesn’t stay on them forever. Shows and movies rotate between different platforms, meaning your favorite title might disappear. Luckily, streaming services usually let you know when something is leaving so you can watch it before it’s gone. If you’re looking for an adventure, check out HBO Max soon, as a popular movie trilogy is about to be removed.

All three Mummy movies starring Brendan Fraser – The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor – will soon be removed from HBO Max. As of today, fans have until May 31st to watch them.

Brendan Fraser’s Mummy Franchise Is Set to Continue

With the Mummy movies recently available on HBO Max, it’s timely news that a fourth film is in development. Almost twenty years after the last installment, Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, The Mummy 4 is scheduled for release in October 2027. The new film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who previously worked on Ready or Not, and will bring back Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, who didn’t appear in Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. It seems The Mummy 4 might even ignore the events of Tomb of the Dragon Emperor altogether, which many fans would likely welcome, given its poor reviews (currently at 13% on Rotten Tomatoes).

With talk of a fourth Mummy movie, now’s a great time to revisit the original films on HBO Max before they’re gone. The series, known for its Indiana Jones-style adventure, has built a dedicated fanbase over the years. While the movies weren’t always critically acclaimed – the first film received the highest score at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes – their popularity has grown, especially for the initial two installments, leading to the development of a fourth movie. Interest in The Mummy remains strong, particularly after Brendan Fraser’s recent career comeback.

As a huge movie fan, I’m really hoping the Mummy franchise makes a comeback! With Indiana Jones seemingly finished after the last film didn’t quite hit the mark, and a sequel to Uncharted taking forever to materialize, we’re seriously lacking those big, adventurous action movies. A new Mummy film isn’t just exciting for those of us who grew up with the originals, but it could also attract a whole new audience who loves this kind of thing. If The Mummy 4 does well, I think it’ll get a lot of younger viewers interested in checking out the earlier movies too, which would be fantastic!

If you don’t get a chance to watch the Mummy movies this month, don’t worry! They’ll almost definitely show up on a streaming service eventually. It’s hard to say exactly when – it depends on Universal making deals with different platforms – but I don’t think we’ll have to wait too long. I’m pretty sure they’ll be available somewhere before The Mummy 4 comes out, which will be perfect for a movie marathon before we see it in theaters.
