Connor Storrie is taking a few pointers from the pros.
The star of Heated Rivalry, who plays the hockey player Ilya Rozanov in the HBO Max series, had athletes from the Team USA men’s and women’s hockey teams join him on stage during the February 28th episode of Saturday Night Live.
Connor explained that he had just two weeks to learn a bit of Russian and pretend he could play hockey for a role. He admitted, though, that watching the actual Olympic hockey players made him realize his performance wasn’t very convincing. He said, ‘I don’t think I played it off.’
Team USA’s Quinn Hughes and Jack Hughes – Jack Hughes scored the goal that won against Canada on February 22nd, giving the team its first Olympic win since 1980 – joined Connor on the Studio 8H stage, proudly wearing their Olympic gold medals.
“Wow, Quinn and Jack, congratulations on winning the Olympics!” Connor exclaimed. Jack replied, “Thanks, but we’ve been so caught up with celebrating that we haven’t had a chance to watch your show yet.”
Quinn asked if the show was about hockey, and Connor, who stars alongside Hudson Williams (who also unexpectedly showed up in the episode), playfully responded, “Sort of,” when asked about the show’s romantic storyline.
After encouraging the NHL players to take a look, Connor invited USA women’s hockey players Megan Keller and Hilary Knight onto the stage. The pair, proudly wearing their gold medals from their February 19th Olympic victory, received a huge ovation. It turned out the admiration was mutual, as Megan shared, “We watched your show too!”

Following President Trump’s joking comments about inviting the women’s team to the White House, Hilary playfully responded, “It was going to be just us, but we figured we’d include the guys too!” Megan chimed in, “Yeah, we wanted to give them a chance to have their moment,” playfully nudging Quinn.
Following the men’s team’s historic victory – their first in 46 years – Hilary joked with a laugh, pointing out that the last time they’d won was two Olympics in the past.
And Jack gave credit where it was due.
Jack chuckled, saying, “Good one.” He then added that the gold medals weren’t just a victory for the team, but for all the fans, including Connor’s.
Despite his efforts, it’s doubtful he’ll be allowed to try on any of the Team USA’s celebratory jewelry. When he asked, the athletes all responded with a clear “No.”
