As of today, March 12th, 2026, Highguard is no longer available to play. The game has been removed from all digital stores as its developer, Wildlight Entertainment, has ceased operation.
Indeed, searching for Highguard on PS Store now returns zero results.
Highguard was an online shooter created by some of the developers who worked on popular games like Apex Legends and Titanfall. Despite this, it didn’t attract a large player base and was discontinued only 45 days after it officially launched.
The reveal of Highguard at the end of The Game Awards 2025 wasn’t well-received by viewers, and many were disappointed by it being the final announcement.
After Wildlight stopped communicating publicly, people began to worry the game might be facing problems, especially after it didn’t generate much excitement at Geoff Keighley’s recent awards show.
The game did launch on January 26th as scheduled and quickly attracted a lot of players. However, that initial popularity didn’t last, and most players stopped playing relatively soon after.
It’s hard to say exactly why it didn’t catch on, but many people online mentioned that the core gameplay was too complicated, matches started slowly, and players wanted to see more people in each game.
Highguard was intended as a long-term project, but it didn’t gain enough popularity after its release. As a result, Wildlight Entertainment had to reduce its workforce significantly just two weeks after launch to try and keep the game going.
This isn’t a happy tale, but it really shows how dangerous it can be to get involved in this particular industry.
Live service multiplayer games can be incredibly successful – some of the most popular games today fall into this category. But the risk is equally high, and failure can be significant.
While games like Helldivers 2 and ARC Raiders get a lot of attention, many others, like Concord or Highguard, don’t really make a splash. It’s not that these games are necessarily bad, it’s just that the gaming market is incredibly competitive.
So, that’s all for Highguard. Did you enjoy playing it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below – we’d love to hear if you’re disappointed to see it shut down.
